This newsletter updates the latest developments in the Shamanic Astrology Mystery School for October, 2006. Table of Contents Latest News Latest Shamanic Astrology NewsMessage from Daniel Giamario – There is a lot of exciting news to share now although this last year or so has been tumultuous with many unexpected twists and turns that have facilitated several different stages of death and rebirth both personally and with Shamanic Astrology. I’m very pleased to now have this opportunity to share with everyone what is happening in this powerful rebirth. Some of you have known about the previous land project at Faywood Hot Springs with Elon Yurwit, which was to include building a land- and sky- based school, provisionally called the Institute of Neo Archaic Cosmology (INAC). At the end of last year it seemed we were full speed ahead. Many of you so heartfully and graciously donated funds for the school and the Antelope Hill Stone Circle project. Our goal was to raise $10,000 - matching funds with Elon for the down payment on Antelope Hill. That goal was accomplished and Antelope Hill was purchased in November 2005. The following month, Elon was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and four months later, in March 2006, Elon made his transition from this world. I spent a few heartful days with Elon in March and as it turned out I left just about an hour before he died. Elon’s illness and passing was the beginning of a confusing and traumatic time for many of us. Suddenly the dream of a land-based school and a monument to the Turning of the Ages no longer existed in the form we had envisioned. During the first few months of this year much of the Shamanic Astrology Mystery School’s progress was at a standstill. (Synchronistically, as fate would have it, aligned with the center point of the Lunar Standstill.) This was coupled with powerful personal transformative changes in which I was deepening my partnership with Kate McKee and Cayelin was dissolving a marriage and entering into a new and wonderfully deep partnership with Peter Klein. Much of this time, I felt frozen and confused about the direction of Shamanic Astrology and uncertain about what to communicate to the larger community. However, in the last few months, there have been many new developments around the land, a new radio show, and a whole new organization designed to support the practical growth of the School. The LandAround the time of the onset of Elon's pancreatic cancer, our new friend Nik Shelton had just purchased four square miles of property adjoining the Faywood Hot Springs area, bordering on the Mimbres River and the back side of Antelope Hill. It was during this time, Nik, unbeknownst to us was climbing Antelope Hill, where he received a vision of a stone circle on top of the hill very similar to the one Elon and I have had envisioned. Nik’s dream of an off-the-grid land based sustainable community dovetails with INAC’s larger vision, and this naturally led to a partnership with Nik and the Shamanic Astrology Mystery School. Additionally, Nik completed the purchase of Antelope Hill this past August further moving us toward fulfilling our dream of building a Neo/ Archaic Cosmological Monument to the Turning of the Ages. Meanwhile, Faywood Hot Springs is for sale, and Spirit willing, it will be purchased by someone also sharing a similar vision of the sacred connection between land and sky. It is possible, and a vision many of us are holding, that Faywood Hot Springs could become a center for transformational education and holistic healing of spirit, body, and mind, which is what I believe was the original intent. Most importantly, the dream originally shared by myself, Elon, Cayelin, and a few core others can go forward with or without Faywood Hot Springs, all in accordance with the Spirit of the Land. I continue to feel great gratitude to Elon and Nik for catching the vision! Meanwhile, we will continue to have events at Faywood Hot Springs while also participating with projects initiated on Nik’s adjoining land. The next Faywood event is an advanced night sky event November 1-5, 2006. See the events section for details. Note: from October 18 to November 6 Daniel will be traveling so please contact Jo Garceau. http://www.modavox.com/7thwavenetwork SAMS Super Council MeetingLast month (September 2006), eighteen people gathered in Sedona for two and a half days forming what we affectionately called a Super Council. The purpose of the meeting was to create and recreate the structure and foundations of the Shamanic Astrology Mystery School. This meeting brilliantly facilitated by Peter Klein, was hugely successful. Under Peter’s guidance, eight separate committees were formed to address the specific actions needed to realize the vision of a manifest school. Each committee has three or more members and each of those attending the council all volunteered for more than one committee, More volunteers are needed. The committees and the committee heads are as follows: Committee Committee Lead 1. Vision and Intent Daniel Giamario At the meeting, action items and action plans were also formulated for each committee. All of the committees are off and running with at least one or two meetings already completed. Participation has been tremendous but more help is always needed. The overall goal and purpose of the committees is to reestablish the Shamanic Astrology Mystery School on a stable and more business-oriented model. Moreover, the top charter of all of the committees is to allow Daniel and Cayelin more time to further develop the vision of Shamanic Astrology. Immense appreciation and gratitude for the committee heads mentioned above, and for everyone already working on the committees and/or showing up to help. We already have a new server, a new Webmaster, and a new web designer in place making it possible for the Shamanic Astrology website to better serve the greater Shamanic Astrology community. Events In addition to the regular events for the SAMS curriculum (see list), another Lunar Standstill event is being planned in Scotland and Ireland in the summer of 2007. The dates will probably be sometime in late July and early August 2007. The trip includes seven to ten days in Scotland (Callanish, Skye, and the Kilmartin Glen) and then four to five days in western Ireland. Transmissions from Scotland and Ireland The 2006 Scotland Lunar Standstill adventure, with a group of 20, was a tremendous success. The variety of experiences, as well as the six-day magic in Ireland with Kate, has contributed to new and deeper insight into the foundational depths of Shamanic Astrology. Although we never had a truly clear night at Callanish, the night of the most exact southern extreme was the clearest night, and over 200 people gathered in ceremonial celebration, a quasi Woodstock-style group, with a vast mythical cast of characters. I’ll write up something in more detail later about this. By the time we got to The Kilmartin Glen, the weather had cleared and the conditions were perfect. My long-standing conviction that this is the original site of Camelot and the historical Arthur was overwhelmingly confirmed. But what happened in Ireland completely took me by surprise. Upon our landing in Dublin, all previous plans of what we were going to do just disappeared. I was intuitively seized by a force that drew up straight to the west, to County Sligo and County Roscommon, the birthplace and home of Queen Maeve. Queen Maeve, is known primarily as a Celtic Warrior Queen, whose name means “She Who Intoxicates” (recently Sylvia Perera has written an excellent Jungian psychology book about her) but our journey took us back before the mytho/historical Celtic queen. We were led to experience an original source point of the traditions that have birthed Shamanic Astrology. We experienced the sacred landscape of the pre-Celtic goddess represented by the hills and glens and loughs (lakes) of Western Ireland, still alive and intact after 6000 years. Both strands of the old tradition are side by side there, the way of the chambered cairn “tombs” or initiation journeying centers located on the tops of the hills, and the way of the standing stones. Of course, these ways are also found in Northwest Scotland, such similar ancient traditions of sacred landscape, and the inner chambers and the outer rings of stone with everything aligned to the stellar cosmology, including the lunar standstill. Behind all this ancient cosmology we find the feminine, the goddess, being both land and sky, and the masculine being both land and sky. The Sun and Moon represent both masculine and feminine principles. These principles of wholeness are interpenetrating but always with the emphasis on life and the love of life and the cycles of becoming and returning, death and rebirth: the ancient tradition before both matriarchy or patriarchy, the original ground of Shamanic Astrology that makes a lie of history and renders insignificant all later battles over class, hierarchy, and power over others. This was the first time since 1996 in Nevada and New Mexico that I have felt this surge of rekindled inspiration. This comes from a force beyond imagination or foreknowledge and it had again captured me. Kate also had her own personal journey of remembering and knowing herself and as in previous such experiences, we both felt like “Great Mystery” had only lifted the veil, every so slightly – giving us just a little taste, that was so nourishing it became my personal experience of the rebirth mirrored in the depths and rebirths described with reference to the Shamanic Astrology Mystery School. One final note- Based on all of these experiences and the experiences others have shared with me, I am even more convinced that the six days a month of the lunar standstill is the most astonishingly clear demonstration of the power of the Turning of the Ages, and the heightened degree of spiritual initiation humanity is undergoing right now. Message from Cayelin As I work on editing and adding to this newsletter, I am struck once again by how grateful I am to the power of Shamanic Astrology to help guide us through these transformative times. As Daniel has shared, the process has had many unexpected twists and turns that have led us to a place more amazing than we were imaging. The lessons in trust and surrender have been magnificent. I am also overwhelmingly grateful for all those who have already come forth to be active participants in helping to rebirth this vision. I invite and encourage anyone who feels resonate with what is unfolding in the Shamanic Astrology world to participate in whatever way you can as we dream the dream onward by building a virtual and physical monument to the Turning of the Ages through the Shamanic Astrology Mystery School and the Institute of Neo-Archaic Cosmology.
