This was
commissioned by The Wilderness Heritage Society of New Zealand,
a wildlife preservation organization for children. The
animals, many of whom are endangered or threatened, appear in
the spirit world. They are crying out, or sending up a
voice. The eagle carries a talking stick with symbols from
many human cultures.

About
the Artist Gene King
Gene King, originally from Memphis, Tennessee, studied painting at the Memphis College of Art with Burton Callicott. She has resided in the hill country near Dripping Springs, Texas for the past 13 years.
Strongly influenced by the realism of the 15th century Flemish painters, King uses her technical capability to translate spiritual symbolism to canvas through the use of temporal beings and objects as her subjects.
She prefers to show her paintings and drawings in public places so that they can be shared with many people. Recently, her work was displayed in a retrospective exhibition held at the University of Texas Performing Arts Center in Austin.
Much of her work is commissioned, including book jackets for Jamie Sams, Rima Beth Starr and Ustad Ali Akbar Khan, for whom she designed the cover for his latest compact disc, "Garden of Dreams". http://www.medicinehorsestudio.com/
