March 1998 Timings
by Carolyn Brent

March 1st Chiron (19 Scorpio) goes Retrograde at 9:20 pm MST. I feel this marks a deepening of the healing process of the Scorpio mysteries, especially the wounds associated with the splitting of sexuality and spirituality.

March 4, (my birthday) Venus enters Aquarius at 9:15 pm MST, and Mars enters Aries at 9:18 am MST. Venus in Aquarius emphasizes the big picture through revolutionary cosmic perspective. March 3-6 Venus is conjunct the fixed star Altair, in the constellation called Aquila. Altair is 1 degree and 44 minutes of Aquarius, and is known as the eye of the eagle. Altair is also one of the stars that makes up the summer triangle (Vega in the constellation of Lyra and Deneb in the constellation of Cygnus the Swan, are the other two). This is also the area of the sky Neptune is in right now. Venus and Neptune make their exact conjunction March 5th at 11:39 pm. This triple conjunction with Neptune, Altair and Venus feels significant for dreaming an even yet bigger picture, and marks an important council meeting (with Neptune and Altair) for Venus while on her journey into the underworld. The new visions and dreams Neptune carries are inspired by the eagle's birds eye perspective and inspiration. Practically oriented Venus integrating in Capricorn has the opportunity to dream the dreams that she will later ground into a efficient structure and form.

Also on March 4, Mars enters Aries at 9:18 am MST. Zero degrees Aries is the spring equinox point and the place of new beginnings. Mars is in a collective cycle of integrating Virgo, the Priest' journey to discover his sacred work. While Mars journey's through Aries, close to the actual spring equinox it seems the emphasis is on the playful warrior, who knows what he wants to do and does it. Fully engaging the Aries energy is a useful tool in the journey Mars is currently undertaking for the masculine principle to co-creatively find and express his sacred work in the world

March 8, at 1:28 pm MST Mercury enters Aries. Mercury represents the style of mind operating for the collective. Mercury in Aries is quick, intuitive, and often way ahead of all the others. Again Zero Aries is the Spring Equinox point and we have an opportunity to perceive the new beginnings in ways we may have never thought of before. Especially when we remember that May, 1998 is the exact center point of the alignment of the Solstices with the Milky Way Galaxy and the intersection of the ecliptic. This alignment happening as it is now, can only happen once in about 26,000 years. (See Turning Of The Ages in The Shamanic Astrology Handbook for greater detailed explanation on this alignment.) This says to me we have an opportunity to experience the sacred timings in completely new and expanded ways.

March 10, 1998 Mercury and Mars conjunct (4 degrees Aries) at 7:48 pm MST. This conjunction is taking place just 2 days before the partial Lunar Eclipse that completes the eclipse window activated on Feb 26. Mars acts and Mercury thinks, so these two dynamic planets meeting in Aries ought to really activate our thinking in new ways. Pluto is also going retrograde today (8 degrees Sagittarius) at 5:19 pm MST. Pluto going retrograde in this eclipse window indicates to me a deepening of the activation that the solar eclipse accelerated almost two weeks ago. I think of retrograde cycles as pulling the arrow back on the bow, a preparation time, before releasing the arrow. We may have an opportunity to work more deeply with the fears, and shadow issues that were activated and/or uncovered in the Solar Eclipse.

The Partial Lunar Eclipse
"From the perspective of experiential and Shamanic Astrology, there are no more important cycles for ceremonial and magical work than those of lunar and solar eclipses." Daniel Giamario

The Full Moon partial Lunar Eclipse (22 Virgo) is occurring at 9:35 pm MST. This eclipse is within 2 degrees of last September's lunar eclipse. The Moon is near the fixed blue star Denebola (22 degrees Virgo, found in the tail of the Lion constellation. The Sun is near the fixed blue-white star Markab (23 degrees Pisces) situated on the wing of Pegasus. "The name Markab means saddle, implying anything that bears a rider and is found in the southwestern corner of the Great Square." (The Starlore Handbook by Geoffrey Cornellius). These fixed stars form an axis, between the Lion and the Winged Horse, Pegasus. When I looked to see if there were stars forming a second axis and a Grand Cross, I was excited to find there are indeed important fixed stars there. Mintaka a violet-white star (22 degrees Gemini) is found in the belt of the constellation of Orion, the Hunter and Ras Alhague a sapphire star (22 degrees Sagittarius) is found in the crown chakra of the constellation of Orphiucus, the Serpent Holder. These fixed stars form an exact square to Markab and Denebola and will be square the Sun and Moon at this lunar eclipse. Orion was a great hunter and mythically linked to the constellation of the Scorpion which is setting as Orion is rising or is rising as Orion is setting in the sky. Orphiucus means "toiling" in Greek. The ancients perceived the struggle between the serpent and Orphicus would go on forever as both had equal strength and powers. Orphicus is near Galactic Center and my impression that Ras Alhague is the energy gateway (the crown chakra) for the transmission coming in from Galactic Center. Orphiucus may be holding the serpent as an ally to assist him in grounding the visions. Orphicus also has one foot on the Scorpion near Antares (the Scorpion's heart). This gives me an impression of the transmissions from Galactic Center grounding through the serpent (through the kundalini life force) and then into the scorpion (also representing life force and passion).

We are reimaging our relationship to the stars, planets and celestial realms. Today's stellar imagery are mostly rooted in ancient Sumarian, Mesopotamian, Egyptian, Greek, and Roman myth. Arabic understanding has also contributed to our current relationship with the sky. These myths and understanding give us a place to begin constructing a new relationship with the sky mysteries as they are evolving and changing before our very eyes. The current eclipse window with strong connections to major fixed stars, help to ignite our awareness around what we are imaging and creating for the next 26,000 year cycle. Again, having an awareness of and receptivity in working with the energies of the sky as they relate to our everyday lives assists us in connecting with the sacred timings in ways that support who we truly are.

March 18, Venus conjuncts Uranus (11 degrees Aquarius) at 10:13 pm. This conjunction is conjunct the fixed star Al Bali, which is the tip of middle finger of the Water Bearer's left hand. The sense I have looking at a drawing of the constellation is the Water Bearer is drawing in energy through his left hand and pouring the water out with his right. So, Uranus brings change, Venus is on a journey to create the new structures and forms that support who we truly are, and the Water Bearer is drawing in the energy necessary for this change to take place. Again, Venus is meeting in council with these heavenly teachers and guides.

March 20, the Sun enters Aries at 12:54 pm MST, marking the exact Spring Equinox moment. The Moon is in late degrees Sagittarius connecting with the fixed star Ras Alhague and Galactic Center that day. I feel this is a momentous Spring Equinox with the Moon conjunct the area of the Sky where the Winter Solstice is aligning with the intersection of the Milky Way and the Ecliptic, near Galactic Center. The Moon carries the 26,000 year lineage of Sagittarius and it is aligned with the area of the sky marking the beginning of a new 26,000 year cycle, at the time of the Spring Equinox when all life is renewing itself. Jupiter is also conjunct the transiting South Node expanding our connection to our ancient past. All of these factors seem to say we have an opportunity to connect with our ancient past for the purpose of dreaming and renewing our present and future.

Back to top of page

March 24, Venus conjuncts the Moon (19 Pisces) at 11:59 am MST and marks her passage through the 2nd gate into the underworld. This is represents Innana giving up her 6th chakra, something symbolic of the third eye and her connection to her own inner vision. This conjunction is taking place close to the Lunar Eclipse Sun Position, that was just accelerated at the Full Moon eclipse. '

March 27, is the Aries New Moon (6 degrees Aries) at 8:14 pm MST. This Aries New Moon is happening very close to the Spring Equinox and further seeds what we are birthing and renewing at this time. Also, today Mercury (22 degrees Aries) is going Retrograde at 4:37 pm MST. As I said earlier, the Retrograde cycle represents the pulling the arrow back on the bow, in preparation for the release of the arrow into new territory. Mercury in Aries indicates an acceleration in the thinking process, often arriving at conclusions long before other archetypes. This retrograde process provides an opportunity for us to slow the thinking process down and reflect more deeply on what is being birthed at this time.

March 28, the Moon conjuncts Mercury (22 degrees Aries) at 6:31 pm MST. Additionally, Mercury is receiving teachings from Saturn today as they conjunct at 6:12 pm MST. This is a triple planetary conjunction and closely conjunct the fixed star Kaiten Batos in the constellation of Cetus, the Sea Monster. Cetus is the fourth largest constellation and sprawls along the equator with its head in the north and the main part of its body in the south. Kaiten Batos is a yellow star that translates to mean "whale's belly". Cetus is the sea monster that Andromeda was left as a sacrifice for to appease Poseidon (who is linked to Neptune). Perseus rescued Andromeda astride Pegasus, killing Cetus with a magical cycle given to him by Athene.

I feel the significance of this is the transmission of the Aries lineage the Moon carries to Mercury already having moved into a deep inward process the day before. This is a timely conjunction that allows Mercury the length of the retrograde cycle to reflect on the Moon in Aries teaching being transmitted today.

April, 1998 Celestial Timings
by Carolyn Brent

April is named after the Greek goddess of love and beauty Aphrodite, "who beguiled all, gods and men alike" (Mythology, by Edith Hamilton). When considering April is the month the Sun enters Taurus, plus we have the Taurus New Moon, and Taurus is the archetypal energy most associated with Aphrodite this naming is appropriate.

Back to top of page

Aphrodite and Taurus both represent the qualities of deep personal intimacy and pleasure. The gift of intimacy was Aphrodite's greatest contribution to humanity. Taurus is a tantric mystery school, as is Scorpio. It has to do with life force energy, the essence of intimacy. Taurus training has two pillars. One pillar is aesthetics, not the knowledge of, but the full experience of what is beautiful, what is pleasurable. The other pillar is intimacy per se. Taurus training involves becoming a master of intimacy, where intimacy is an art form.

Taurus asks, "What is the nature of intimacy, and what is the nature of aesthetics?" It is a tantric path, where one learns to be completely into the current of life, and to increase their own life force energy. The enlightenment path for Taurus is the Garden of Eden, to fully bring spirit into matter, for the purpose of pure enjoyment and pleasure. From an eastern perspective, there is actually a form of yoga known as Bhogabhumi; the path of union through pleasure. Certainly this is a Taurus mystery school! In the west, the philosophical school of epicurianism also is associated with Taurus. In the west, the philosophical school of epicurianism also is associated with Taurus. (From the Shamanic Astrology Handbook)

This month then focuses on the concept of pleasure as a path to wholeness. Magically, synchronistically, quite unexpectedly and spontaneously last month Priestess, Enchantress To-Ree-Nee and I fully anchored and established the Pleasure Paradigm during a ceremonial get-together. The awareness of an emerging new paradigm has been growing over the years. Many of us know we are leaving the old paradigm of limitation and pain behind. There are many new paradigms emerging that are interconnected and interrelated. The inspiration that came through for us was the importance of recognizing, naming, and living in the frequency of the Pleasure Paradigm. We saw the gateway into the Pleasure Paradigm represented by two pillars. One pillar represents the frequency of Pleasure and the other pillar represents the frequency of  Ecstasy. Thus, energizing the image of ecstatic pleasure in our bodies, in our feelings, in our thoughts, in our imagination, dreams and visions is inviting the Pleasure into our reality. Imagination is our greatest creative tool. So for those who wish to join us in the Pleasure Paradigm help us imagine a world operating from co-creative Pleasure, where each individual has the right to experience ecstatic pleasure that enchants, upholds and supports the pleasure of all life.

April 2, Mars conjuncts Saturn (22 degrees Aries the same degree Mercury went Retrograde last month) at 12:30 am MST. This is a triple conjunction with Baten Kaitos, a fixed star named in the constellation of Cetus the Sea Monster. Cetus is the fourth largest constellation and sprawls along the equator with its head in the north and the main part of its body in the south. Baten Kaitos is a yellow star that translates to mean "whale's belly". Cetus is the sea monster sent to claim Andromeda who was left chianed to the rocky cliffs by the sea as sacrifice to appease Poseidon (who is linked to Neptune). Andromeda was left chained to the rocky cliffs by the sea for Cetus. Perseus rescued Andromeda astride Pegasus, killing Cetus with a magical cycle given to him by Athena (left brain feminine principle). Saturn relates to the Titan Cronus (time) and Mars is the sacred masculine principle on the quest for his sacred work (Virgo quest begun a year ago last March. The belly of the whale is where we encounter our deepest fears. One sense I get is this is the time (Cronus) when the sacred masculine (Mars), must encounter his deepest fears (Baiten Katos). In the belly of the whale there is no escape. Having the courage and faith (Aries) to surrender to the process are key ingredients to successfully completing this initiation. Synchronistically, this is coinciding with Mars' journey in the underworld, meaning Mars is no longer visible in the sky due to its close proximity to the Sun.

April 6th, Sun and retrograde Mercury conjunct at 18 Aries. This fuels Mercury's integration of Aries style thinking into the collective mind. Aries is quick thinking, intuitive and action oriented. As stated in the Shamanic Astrology Handbook "the fire sign Mercury's are not concerned with getting information, but rather they are concerned with getting a new or expanded vision, and experiencing being in new territory, being purely creative, and coming up with something that wasn't there before." Mercury retrograde conjunct the Sun deepens this process if we choose to engage it for ourselves.

April 11, is the Libra Full Moon (22 Libra) at 3:24 pm MST. "On a cultural level, the Libra archetype extends the desire for conscious equal partnership to a vision of community, akin to the Arthurian round table, where representatives of all twelve mystery schools, lineages, and archetypes sit together, as spokes of a wheel in a circle, all in non-heirarchical acceptance and respect for all the authentic expressions of the human journey. In this imagery, the figure of Arthur the king fades away, being replaced by the Native American talking stick, where, in democratic fashion, each of the twelve has equal freedom to command the space and represent their views." (Shamanic Astrology Handbook)

Saturn is conjunct the Sun and opposed the Moon during this Full Moon. Saturn represents the rules and Aries is always stretching the rules, while Libra is concerned with playing by the rules. Saturn is structure and responsibility. Aries is spontaneity and doing what one wants to do. Libra is balancing self desire with self discipline and taking others into account.

This Full Moon finds the Moon conjunct the fixed star Spica, considered one of the truly great fixed stars, on the same level of importance as the four royal stars featured at the Solar Eclipse. Spica is located in the constellation of the Virgin Priestess and is seen as the ear of wheat she is holding in her left hand. The Full Moon conjunct this Star seems to be reminding us to remember the saying, "as you sew, so shall you reap." What we hold in consciousness at this time is what is being seeded for the next 26,000 years. Spica is also connected with Ishtar, the Queen of Heaven, who is also connected with the eight-pointed star. You may find this eight pointed star imagery useful to work with during this Full Moon, and in general.

Eight Pointed Star Images From Gabriel

Visualize a new paradigm manifesting for all beings on earth. Visualize the grid lines of the earth carrying a balanced energy of sacred union, of masculine and feminine and of sexuality and spirituality. Visualize an eight pointed star. See this star radiant with the full spectrum of light, all the colors present in full, vibrant, alive expression. You might see White-gold at its center, as it radiates all the colors of the rainbow to its tips, like a prism of light. This star represents the blending of the energies of soul and form through the union of the cross of matter + with the cross of spiritual consciousness X , thus forming eight points. The union of spirit and matter, of feminine and masculine, Sacred Union.

While visualizing this star see the air filled with life force energy, see the protective layer around the earth's atmosphere being restored, and the oceans cleansed. See the soil being replenished with nutrients, and the great forests of the world sustained and healthy. Visualize enjoyment of the abundance of our co-created reality for the highest good of all. See the rainbow light of this activated star reaching all over the world, energizing the full spectrum of primordial life force!

Back to top of page

Arcturus is also on the same longitude as Spica and is aligning its energy with this Full Moon. Arcturus is a sacred masculine energy that was seen as a protector for Spica. The imagery I get is sacred union, of masculine and feminine, of giving and receiving, of heaven and earth, in balanced, harmonious conscious equal partnership with all life.

Mars is still within six degrees of Saturn during this Full Moon further illuminating and working with what was activated at the Saturn/Mars exact conjunction of April 6th.

Venus at this Full Moon has reached 6 degrees Pisces, which is very close to the area of the sky Jupiter was at the February Solar Eclipse, activating this area of the sky. So Venus has just crossed the fixed royal star Fomalhaut, (connected with Archangel Gabriel the messenger) which is the fixed star that was activated by Jupiter during the solar eclipse. My sense is Venus is carrying a message of love and compassion for all, and she is reminding us to connect to the eight-pointed star imagery of sacred union, the union of spirit and matter as conscious equals.

April 26, 1998 is the Taurus New Moon (7 degrees Taurus) at 4:42 pm MST. This New Moon is also conjunct Mars at 10 degrees Taurus and the fixed star Hamal located in the head of the constellation of the Ram. Mars represents the masculine active force in a feminine receptive sign. Taurus mysteries include the art of receivership and tantra. Thus, my feeling is Mars conjunct this New Moon is activating a greater awareness for us around these mysteries. Also, the fixed star Hamal brings its aggressive qualities of the ram to this New Moon. Hamal is leader oriented, protecting the community and creating the safe space (along with Mars) for the emerging Pleasure Paradigm.

Vesta, asteroid goddess of the hearth and keeper of the sacred flame is completing her journey through Taurus (29 degrees) and is at the point of her most comprehensive development of the Taurus mysteries at the time of the New Moon. Vesta is the Virgin Priestess, meaning she was whole and complete within herself and did not need anyone else to know who she was. To me, Vesta in Taurus symbolizes the sacredness of sexuality, of receivership and of Pleasure.

So, once again we have the sacred masculine (Mars) and the sacred feminine (Vesta) at the collective New Moon conception point, reminding us that sacred union is indeed taking place.

Next month, May, 1998 is the exact center point of the Winter Solstice alignment with the intersection of the Milky Way Galaxy and the Ecliptic. This happens only once in about 26,000 years! What we are engaging in our imaginations, the dreams we are dreaming, the inspired visions we holding in consciousness are the seeds for the next 26,000 years. MAY1998

Celestial Timings
by Carolyn Brent

The month of May is named after the Goddess of spring, Maia Majestas. She was the mother of Hermes and the leader of the Greek Seven Sisters known as the Pleiades. The Irish Celtic queen Medb (Maeve) was also an incarnation of this goddess. Shakespeare honored her as the fairy Queen Mab. May is the month recognized in ancient traditions as the appearance of the mother goddess. In recent Christian traditions she is seen as Mother Mary. In tales such as Robin Hood she equates to Maid Marian. In May we celebrate Beltane, the cross-quarter point between the Spring Equinox and the Summer Solstice. In some traditions Beltane is celebrated as the first day of summer and is celebrated on May 1. However, astrological Beltane takes place when
the Sun reaches the half way point between the seasons, or 15 degrees Taurus. This year this occurs on May 5, also known as Cinco de Mayo, a popular day of celebration in the southwest (Mexico's Independence Day).

May 3, Neptune (2 degrees Aquarius) turns retrograde at 9:26 pm. Retrograde cycles represent a turning inward process. I see it as pulling the arrow back on the bow, or stepping back, as a way of gathering power to move more swiftly forward. Neptune is visionary and has been hanging out near the fixed star Altair, the eye of the eagle. Altair is located in the constellation Aquila the eagle, who was associated with the god Jupiter, even thought to be Jupiter himself, as the eagle who carried Ganymedes (the most beautiful of mortals, and Jupiter's cupbearer) to heaven. Neptune's presence here indicates an infusion of new visions and dreams, an expanded, revolutionary, big picture, first through surrendering the old beliefs and ideas
we hold, becoming empty, so something new can come into our awareness, and our experience. Also on May 3 Venus enters Aries at 12:16 pm MST. This is the Amazon Warrior/Adventurer aspect of the feminine. This is
an opportunity to balance the playful, childlike innocence qualities of Aries with the responsible, elder qualities of Capricorn. In January Venus began a 584 day integration journey with the Capricorn mysteries.

May 11 is the Scorpio Full Moon (21 degrees Scorpio) at 7:30 am MST. The Scorpio Full Moon is the most intense Full Moon of the year, as Scorpio/Taurus form the tantric axis or life force energy axis. This Full Moon promises to be no exception. Sun and Mars (21 degrees Taurus) are conjunct, meaning the Virgo quest of the masculine that began March, 1997
is now in the underworld, going through his death and rebirth process. The Sun and Mars are also showing up in the Constellation Eridanus, the river, and the fixed star Rana. Rivers symolize the mystery of where life comes from, what life is for, where it is leading us and for how long it will take to get there. It is in listening to the river that Siddhartha finds the answers he is looking for about the meaning of life. Eridanus is the sixth largest constellation and comes from a latin root meaning "that which comes from the Master, raises us to life, then takes life from us." This is suggesting the cycle of life, of birth, death and rebirth. Water evaporates from the ocean, becomes rain, finds it way to the rivers and eventually back to the ocean. This imagery connects to Scorpio/Taurus life force, life blood, life waters, and reminds us that life is flowing. The Moon is conjunct two important fixed stars. One is Unukhalhai (pronounced Oonookh Al Hay) in the constellation of Serpens and is known as the neck of the snake. Snakes have their brains in their neck, rather than in their heads, so the neck is their seat of knowledge. So Unukhalhai is a star connected to knowledge of where we came from, what we are, where we are
going,, what holds us back, and what heals us. It seems this Full Moon is linking to an axis in the sky that has to do with past, present and future knowledge. The other fixed star is Zuben Al Shamali, the North Scale of the Scales of Libra. It was also once considered the north claw of the Scorpion. The claws of the Scorpion are used for making love and for killing there prey, so it is not surprising this star has been connected with dramatic historical events. In addition to this, Jupiter and Pallas Athene (asteroid goddess of wisdom, and The Warrior Queen) is trining the Moon at 22 degrees Pisces. This is the area of the sky where the Lunar eclipse took place last March and is conjunct the fixed star Markab, on the wing of Pegasus. Here great mastery is possible if we are open to the teachings of the feminine principle. Jupiter is the principle of expansion, expanding the eclipse energy generated last March and connecting to this Full Moon. The South Node of the Moon is at 8 degrees Pisces, nearly exact the placement of the Feb 26th Solar Eclipse. This means the origination point of humanity's time track is aligned with the worm hole activation of the solar eclispe energy, and suggests we can pull the ancient knowledge from the past that serves and assists our rapid development now.
Mercury and Saturn (27 degrees Aries) are also conjunct at this Full Moon, suggesting we can put our ideas into structure and form, particularly if we utilize the manifesting power of the Scorpio Full Moon. Mercury and Saturn are conjunct the fixed star Kullat Nuni a Babylonian name, whose origins and meaning are uncertain, but thought to refer to the cord of the Fish. It is more commonly known as Alpherg, an Arabic name, meaning outpouring of water. Al Pherg is found in the constellation of the Pisces Fish. This star has the potential to reveal the myteries of our origins, and with Saturn to decode and restructure those mysteries and Mercury to creatively express and communicate them, we have the potential for amazing magic to occur.

May 14, Moon reaches 0 degrees Capricorn at 11:40 am MST. O degrees Capricorn is the Winter Solstice point in the the sky. The Moon reaching this area of the sky marks for us where the galactic alignment is taking place. You may want to step outside tonight or either night before or after tonight to get a sense of the general area of the sky this is taking place. It is also a good timing for ceremonially working with the Galactic Alignment. Mercury enters Taurus at 7:10 pm. Mercury in Taurus is a shift from the fast paced Aries style thinking and communication. Taurus takes its time to thoroughly digest and assimilate information. Once Taurus gets something, it really gets it and doesn't soon forget it.

May 17, Uranus goes retrograde (12 degrees and 45 minutes of Aquarius) at 3:54 pm MST. Uranus is beginning an inward process of integration of the Aquarius Mysteries. Uranus is conjunct the fixed star Dorsum, found on the back of the Sea-Goat (the constellation also named Capricorn). This star tends to relate to important world events and is in an area of the sky of great
hope for the world. Tchaikovski, Jules Verne, Tennyson, and the famed healer DeVoe, all have their mid-heavens conjunct this star . Ronald Reagan and Charles Dickens have Sun conjunct Dorsum. Author-Alchemist Rider Haggard, Rosicrucian astrologer and healer Max Heindel and Emperor Haile Selassie have their Moon conjunct Dorsum.

May 20 Sun enters Gemini at 11:05 pm MST. This archetype relates to the trickster magician, coyote, heyokah, troubabour minstrel, and the information networker. "One of the main features of Gemini training is to fully know you are not affected by the laws of nature, you are truly free from the rules. Gemini's intent is to learn to be the eternal youth, free spirit, entertainer, artist,
or divine comedian, connected to the creative Muse and to ultimately achieve complete freedom." From The Shamanic Astrology Hanbook.

May 25 is the Gemini New Moon (5 degrees Gemini) at 12:32 pm MST. This New Moon is opposed by transformative Pluto at (6 degrees Sagittarius). Pluto is opposed the Sun. Moon, and Mars illuminating what information needs to come into the light of our awareness at this time. Pluto in Sagitarrius represents the relentless quest for deep, penetrating truth and meaning. Gemini energy creatively, playfully and in unexpected ways communicates these truths. The transformative power of Pluto is encountering the playful magic of Gemini through the lens of the Sun (the fuel), Moon (the lineage) and Mars, (the masculine principle). This is a death and rebirth process with the intent to empower the Gemini archetype in new ways that more fully support who we are at the Turning Of The Ages. The image that occurs to me is of the caterpillar transforming into a butterfly, a metamorphisis that is truly an expression of freedom and beauty. Saturn and Venus are conjunct in Aries. This is the feminine encounter with the rules, with structure and form. Venus asks how the current structures are supporting her and if they aren't supporting her how can they be changed. Her warrior nature in Aries has the courage and strength to make changes designed to support her emerging Capricorn identity. This Gemini New Moon plants the seeds for enchanting, playful, magical creative, self expression. The Sun and Moon are conjunct the fixed star Prima Hyadum found in the Bull. It is connected to a cluster of six stars including the eye of the Bull, Aldebaran. This cluster was referred to as The Hyades by the Greeks and were thought to be the
half sisters of The Pleides. The Hyades are the daughters of Atlas and Aethra. Prima Hyadum can denote good clear thinking, writing and speaking when used consciously. Thus, this New Moon strongly suggests a timing for strenghtening our communication skills. We are now at the center point of the Turning Of The Ages, and pioneering entirely unknown territory. This process asks us to trust our inner knowing, or intuition., connecting with our inner teacher, or truth received from our inner being as direct knowing. This may be experienced as a feeling in the bones, a sense of knowing without knowing how you know. You just know that you know, and what you know resonates as truth throughout your being. It is not something learned through studying
or reasoning. It is simply knowing and trusting what you know. The "Inner Knower" has access to all knowledge, all that is required of us is to be open and receptive.

June 1998
Celestial Timings
by Carolyn Brent

June 1, Mercury enters Gemini at 1:07 pm MST. This is one of Mercury's favorite places to express. Gemini is high-speed mental acuity and creative communication. Mercury represents how the mind works, or how thinking takes place and Gemini is efficient, quick thinking. Thus, we could say Mercury in Gemini is thinking times thinking, with the coyote or trickster's insights. Sometimes Gemini relates to the image of the information junkie, because they love to gather all kinds of information and then network it.

June 2, Mars in Gemini (7 degrees) opposes Pluto today. Mars opposition to Pluto occurs about every 2 years. The effects of this aspect will be felt for several days prior and for several days after the exact opposition. Mars is still within less than 5 degrees of the Sun, meaning it is not visible in the morning or evening sky. So, we say Mars is in the underworld, invisible to the Earth based observer. Mars opposed to Pluto is like a Full Moon affect relative to Mars and Pluto, emphasizing the underworld initiation of Mars. The masculine principle on its quest for the sacred work (and how the High Priest expresses now) that began in March of 1997 is in the "belly of the whale" and can not escape. He must feel his feelings and face his deepest fears. What prevents him from expressing his sacred work? Does he even know what his sacred work is? Is he afraid to pursue his true heart's desire and commit to the kind of work that juices him and feels in alignment with who he truly is? These questions and more intensify at this time. Now is the time for all who feel aligned to tune into these questions more deeply and open to receive the insights Pluto has to reveal.

Back to top of page

June 4, Mercury opposes Pluto in Gemini (6 degrees) at 3:46 am MST. This opposition happens once each year. Mercury is within 10 degrees of the Sun, so it to is in the underworld at the time of this opposition. The questions this triggers are: What fears prevent us from thinking and expressing freely and creatively? What beliefs hold us back from truly communicating who we are in the world? How does the shadow of Gemini find healthy integration and expression?

June 5, Mercury and Mars meet at 9 Gemini, conjunct the fixed star Aldebaran, within 6 degrees of the Sun at 4:39 am MST. This meeting is occurring in the underworld. There are several ways to look at their meeting and what it means. My sense is that Mars and Mercury are meeting as allies to share their insights and offer each other encouragement and support on their journeys. Aldebaran is the eye of the Bull, suggesting this is an insightful meeting. Aldebaran is the watcher of the East and linked with Archangel Michael, suggesting new beginnings, illumination and the strength to put these insights into form.

June 8, Saturn enters Taurus for the first time in nearly 30 years at 11:08 pm. Saturn will remain in Taurus until October when it retrogrades back into Aries. The last time Saturn was in Taurus was in 1969 at the height of the Vietnam War protest. My sense is Saturn in Taurus is an opportunity to bring into structure and form the full essence of the Pleasure Paradigm, which means first we must get rid of all that no longer serves or gives us pleasure. The question to ask now is how to follow your true heart's desire in the Pleasure Paradigm? What supports the active expression of Heaven on Earth through the path of Pleasure?

June 9, The Sagittarius Full Moon (20 degrees Sagittarius) is occuring at 9:19 pm MST. This Full Moon finds the Sun conjunct Mars (wide) and Mercury (near exact), with the exact conjunction of Sun and Mercury occurring at 11:56 pm MST. This Full Moon is taking place within 10 degrees of the Galactic Alignment where the Winter Solstice is aligning with the intersection of the Milky Way Galaxy and the ecliptic. This is the alignment that takes place only once in about 26,000 years. The Full Moon is very close to this area of the sky illuminating Galactic Center and the intersection point. Here we have an opportunity to tune into the incoming galactic energies and access them through the Sagittarius lineage of expansion through the knowledge, wisdom, and meaning we find and attune to within ourselves. This is an excellent timing for ceremonially attuning to the galactic alignment and co-creating with the incoming energies.

June 10, the Moon reaches and illuminates the Galactic alignment at 5:51 pm MST. When the Moon rises it will be just to the left of this area of the sky, and just left of Galactic Center. This draws our conscious awareness to the dreaming place of all the ages, where we can align our dreaming with that of the Galactic Gateway. The Moon carries the lineage of the last 26,000 years and when it passes over this area of the sky, it acts as a marker and a teacher of the ancient wisdom. One way to particpate with this intent is to attune with this wisdom in progressive and inspired ways that apply to who we are now in the present time.

June 14, Mercury enters Cancer at 10:33 pm MST. This is the Summer Solstice degree, exactly opposite the Winter Solstice point in the sky. Mercury in Cancer operates through the feelings. One very intelligent way to work with Mercury in Cancer, is to take time to feel and listen to what is really true for us and then nurture ourselves from that place of knowing.

June 21, Sun enters Cancer at 7:02 am MST, marking the exact Summer Solstice, (the symbolic Full Moon point of the year). Venus and Moon (26 Taurus) conjunct today at 8:50 am MST. According to the imagery found in the Investigation of Venus and Mars Cycles (available for $8.00 through JCA Unlimited) this Moon conjunction marks the passage of Venus (Inanna) through the fifth gate into the underworld where she is giving up something representing her power center. There are two ways we can look at this. One is that she is stripped of her ability to stand up for herself and what she feels is true. She loses her connection to her Will and her own personal power. She loses her ability to know herself separate from others, becoming subservient to the will of others. The second is that she is being stripped of any beliefs that prevent her from standing in her full power. Remember this is taking place in connection with Venus and her journey to integrate the Capricorn mysteries into the feminine world principle. (See the Web Site for more. Here Capricorn is challenged, becasue she is used to accomplishing her will through responsible administration, and understanding, of how things work in her domain. In the Taurus mysteries, responsible Capricorn is learning to receive and savor the pleasure of her actions and the fruits they bear. At Summer Solstice these images areintensified and become an important feature of the emerging season.

June 23 is the New Moon (3 degrees) in Cancer at 8:51 pm MST. This new Moon is taking place just two days after the Summer Solstice, further emphasizing and seeding the Solstice energy and the themes already set in motion. Family and tribe are important to Cancer, as is connection and a sense of security. The Sun and Moon are conjunct the fixed star Tejat Prior in the Constellation of Gemini, the twins known as Castor and Pollux. This star has a Latin and Arabic meaning that translates as underneath front, maybe because it is within two degrees of Castor's foot. This star represents the ability to present ideas in a reasonable and acceptable ways.

June 24 Venus enters Gemini at 5:27 am MST. Here Venus integrating in Capricorn is reminded not to take herself too seriously, to have fun, be spontaneous, entertain herself, and to network with others.

June 29, Venus opposes Pluto (5 degrees Gemini) at 4:06 am MST. Pluto asks us what are our deepest fears now disempowering us, and preventing us from being all that we can be and express? Pluto represents transformation through the death of all that no longer serves and rebirth into our full power.

June 30, Mercury enters Leo at 4:51 pm MST. Mercury enters Leo nearly exactly opposite Neptune in Aquarius. Mercury in Leo boldly goes into new territory to discover what was not known, or there before. Neptune is the mystical visionary and Aquarius is the cosmic visionary. Neptune conjunct Altair, the eye of the Eagle, is bringing in the collective, revolutionary big picture, through cosmic and mystical vision taking us all into new visionary territory.

July 1998

Celestial Timings
by Carolyn Brent

Knowledge of the Celestial Timings connects us with the collective As Above, So Below Mysteries and to our own personal cycles and rhythms. 1998 appears to represent the center point of the Turning Of The Ages (see A Shamanic Look At The Turning Of The Ages in the article section on the Shamanic Astrology Web Site www.jcau.com/nightsky or in The Shamanic Astrology Handbook) where time and events feel more accelerated than ever. Intensity is a common experience these days, though the intensity is not necessarily good or bad. It just is. Staying connected to the Big Picture, in part, through having an awareness of the Celestial Timings, helps to give us a context to integrate our personal experiences. Some of the language here may feel technical. If so, look past that and connect with the meaning or framework expressed here. Remember, this is not intended to be a left-brained linear experience, but rather a way to connect with the greater mysteries through the images presented.

July is named after Julius Caesar who developed the Julian calendar. The Julian calendar was developed by Caesar with help, in an attempt to bring order to what was viewed as a chaotic Roman calendar. The presently used Gregorian calendar eventually replaced the Julian calendar, but kept the name July as the seventh month as a way of honoring Julius Caesar. The first few days of July corresponds to the ending of the Celtic tree-calendar month of the oak on July 7th and the beginning of the month of Tinne, or holly tree. According to the Celtic calendar this is a month of balance, whose sacred color is dark gray-green.

Chiron is square Uranus the month of July. Uranus is the agent of revolutionary change and Chiron is the wounded healer. Chiron is spending all of 1998 in the domain of Scorpio. Chiron’s intent here is to heal the wounds around sexuality and spirituality. Uranus square Chiron sets the stage for amazing shifts and changes in unexpected ways around these issues.

July 1, Mercury (0 degrees Leo) opposes Neptune (0 degrees Aquarius) at 1:02 pm MST, and completes a T-square with Saturn. . The energy of a T-square is generally thought of as difficult and challenging by traditional astrology and for many their experience in the world of form supports that idea. It is this type of configuration that brings about structural change in the world and change is often experienced as challenging and difficult. This type of aspect is intended to bring concrete shifts in the old structure. . When understood and worked with consciously, it can be viewed as a marvelous opportunity to anchor new realities into form.

This aspect will be felt for a few days before and after the exact alignment. Creative, imaginative communication is emphasized, while staying connected to Cosmic Overview. Neptune has been hanging out near the fixed star Altair (the eye of the eagle, in the constellation of Aquila) for many months now. The eagle's bird's eye perspective has been a dominant theme connected with Neptune's intent to bring in the new visions and dreams. This Mercury opposition acts like a Full Moon, intended to communicate these visions through symbol, through dreams, and through language. Mercury squares Saturn today at 10:22 pm MST. The intent here is for Saturn to provide Neptune's imaginative visions with a supportive structure and form. This is activation of this T-square will repeat itself several more times this month and next when the Sun, Moon,Mars and Venus move into Leo.

July 3, is when the Dog Days are said to begin, and the Moon enters Scorpio at 4:46 am. The Dog Days correspond to the Sun's close proximity every year at this time to the constellation Canis Major and the fixed star Sirius Sirius is the brightest fixed star in the night sky and is thought to be connected to Isis, Osiris, and Anubis. The Sun's arrival here activates this area of the sky, illuminating the mysteries connected to Sirius and the triangular star gateway referred to as Heaven's Gate by the ancients. Sirius is an important feature of this gateway, joined by Procyon, in Canis Minor and Betelguese, in Orion. These stars represent the triune council of this gateway. This gateway is not visible in thenight sky now due to the Sun’s presence, but we have an opportunity to access theser mysteries through the illuminating and activating energies of the Sun.

According to The Pleiadian Agenda, by Barbara Hand Clow, "Sirius holds the 6D geometrical light body of Earth in form." The book further indicates that the ancient Egyptians came from Sirius teaching temple technology to earthlings for the express purpose of also teaching us about sacred geometry. She goes onto describe the Sirians as "magnificent feline gods" responsible for building the Great Pyramid and Sphinx as geometric portals to the stars, that are activated when we are traveling in the Photon Band. She further states that the Photon Band is "the progenitor of one of many Milky Way stellar spirals." Earth's solstice points are currently aligned along our Milky Way indicating an increased activation in Earth's geometric portal. It is interesting to note that the Milky Way passes through the center of the Heaven's Gate Triangle of stars, further suggesting the importance of these stars.

Last July 1997 the Sun, Moon and Comet (Hale-Bopp) aligned with Sirius during early July, with the exact alignment occurring on July 4. I suggested then, this timing was designed to bring through the Sirian teachings of sacred geometry and the cellular experience of the sixth dimensional, geometric light body of the Earth for those willing to tune in and receive this activation. As the Sun reaches this place again this year the opportunity to further experience multidimensional possibilities in the area of sacred geometry, and in how we create our reality through intent, is illuminated by the Sun. The more consciousness we bring to this process, the more consciously we co-create with the Turning Of The Ages while dreaming the dream onward. The time is now.

July 8, at 1:28 am MST the Moon enters Capricorn. This marks the alignment of a nearly Full Moon with the area of the sky where the Galactic Alignment is taking place. Noting where the Moon is tonight and tomorrow marks the area of the sky indicating the Turning Of The ages. It is where the winter solstice point is now found. Also, today Mercury (10Leo26) is opposite Uranus (10Aquarius26) at 4:14 pm MST. This is a highly mental combination. Mercury is quick and Uranus is unpredictable, and the two together are bound to be full of unexpected surprises. Here is where flexibility and the willingness to roll with the flow comes in handy, as we are unpredictably catapulted into new territory.

July 9, Mars rises in the Morning Sky from his long journey in the underworld. Capricorn Full Moon (17Carpricorn14, which means the Moon is 17 degrees and 14 minutes into Capricorn) at 9:01 am MST. This Full Moon highlights the Galactic Alignment and helps to anchor it in form. The Capricorn mysteries represent the wise ones who know the rules, know how things work, and co-create the operating manual. At The Turning Of The Ages new rules, and a new operating manual emerge. Now is the time to envision the new structures and forms supporting all of life and the gifts each has to offer to the whole. This is a wonderful timing for ceremonially celebrating all of life’s mysteries and our own individual contribution to these mysteries. In this way, we actively show up to dream our reality, to dream the new myths, to dream the new operating manual, and to dream the evolving and emerging mysteries.

July 11, Chiron (12Scorpio25) goes direct at 5:14 pm MST. Chiron began its inward dive with the Scorpio mysteries March 1st. I have personally experienced a profound deepening and healing connected to the Scorpio mysteries since March and particularly in May when Chiron exactly moved back across my Scorpio Ascendant. Intensity, amazing initiations, numerous insights, and alchemical transformation have all been highly featured for myself and others I have encountered with prominent Scorpio, Taurus, Leo and Aquarius ranging from 11 degrees to 20 degrees of these signs on their natal chart. Much of Chiron in Scorpio is about healing our wounds around sexuality and intending we are no longer operating at the affect of the wounds, but rather these wounds are now part of the medicine we carry as our gifts into the world. Chiron’s return to direct motion carries these gifts more powerfully into the world and provides an opportunity to more fully integrate these initiations.

July 17, Jupiter (28 degrees Pisces) goes retrograde at 5:55 pm MST. July 17, Jupiter (28 degrees Pisces) goes retrograde at 5:55 pm MST. Jupiter begins an inward dive in relationship to the Pisces mysteries; it has been expanding all this year. The Pisces mysteries include the mystical, visionary dreamer, merging with all of life in compassionate, sacred service. The Solar Eclipse in February accelerated these mysteries and Jupiter was already in place to continue expanding what was being activated then. Jupiter’s retrograde allows for a deepening, and drawing back of the bow, to further integrate this process. Jupiter will remain Retrograde until Mid-November of this year. July 18 - Aug 24, Venus and Mars join together within 10 degrees in the Morning Sky. This type of planetary interaction has inspired some of our greatest myths. When we observe these cycles we often find a correspondence to what is happening in our lives. This type of awareness at the Turning Of The Ages is what inspires the new myths and dreams.

July 19, Venus enters Cancer at 8:18 am MST. This means Venus is crossing the Summer Solstice point aligned along the Milky Way near the constellation of the Bull (a.k.a. the constellation Taurus). Venus in Cancer is the great nurturing mother energy. First and foremost she must nurture herself, before she can effectively nurture others. On July 21, at 4:45 am MST, the Moon meets with Venus at the sixth gate into the underworld representing her relinquishing the garment that symbolizes her second chakra, associated with the sex, money and pleasure center. This allows Venus to give up any old programs, old beliefs, or old patterns that limited or restrict her ability to fully receive pleasure, enjoy her sexuality, or receive financial abundance in the world. In the Cancer domain, she is receiving the teachings of how to self-nurture in ways that are pleasurable, and then from that place she enjoys and receives pleasure in nurturing others.

July 22, at 5:55 pm MST the Sun enters regal Leo, emphasizing radical, radiant self-love and self-confidence in creative, charismatic ways. Sun in Leo reminds us to show up and play our part with confidence, even if we feel we only have a small supporting role. All parts, all roles in the collective script are valid, and make an important contribution.

July 23, is the Leo New Moon (1 degree Leo) at 6:44 am MST. This New Moon forms a T-square with Saturn and Neptune. This T-square energy will be felt for several days before and after the New Moon. See July 1 for more details about the influence of the T-square

The New Moon is opposed by Neptune (idealism) in Aquarius and squared by Saturn (practical structure and form) in Taurus. How do we conceive and bring in the ideal, cosmic visionary (Aquarius) dreams of Neptune into enjoyable (Taurus) practical (Saturn) expression through the self-love and self-confidence of super star Leo? This is part of the creative challenge of this New Moon conception point.

July 30, Mercury (28 degrees Leo) goes Retrograde at 7:23 pm MST and the Moon enters Scorpio at 12:45 pm MST. Mercury retrograde in Leo provides an opportunity to more deeply answer the questions raised by the Leo New Moon. Mercury in Leo is boldly going into new territory to discover what wasn't there before. The retrograde process dives deep to integrate these mysteries on a cellular level, taking it beyond the logical and rational into the profoundly experiential. How do we align with our true heart’s desire and confidently show up in radical radiant self-love, trusting when we do, we are fulfilling our destiny and purpose?

The Moon entering Scorpio triggers a Grand Cross formation, completing the T-square formed by the Sun opposing Neptune and Squared by Saturn. The Sun in this T-square is the fuel for the changes taking place. My sense is the Sun in Leo is burning bright and hot, which will burn away what no longer serves, or for those who are especially stubborn and resistant to change, it will scorch their reality. The maximum intensity of this alignment will take place July 29, 30 and 31. It intensifies the affects of the T-square and brings in the influence of Uranus (11 degrees Aquarius), and Chiron (12 degrees Scorpio). Uranus adds the element of unpredictable events, often extreme to the point of novelty or just plain out of the ordinary. As discussed earlier Chiron is healing the wounds around sexuality and spirituality and life force. When understood as a collective initiation the intent of such an alignment is to bring about change that resonates with the overall cosmic script. We can best participate by asking ourselves if we are open to the changes that are necessary for structuring of the new paradigm, or are we resisting the changes within and without creating greater chaos and confusion in our lives? These type of changes do have a certain amount of chaos and confusion associated with them as part of the necessary clearing the old to make room for the new. Resisitng the changes intensifies our experiences (Uranus creates change by whatever means it takes), or we can experience the magic of birthing something we haven’t yet fully imagined, by embracing the changes and trusting they are in alignment with divine will.

AUGUST 1998 CELESTIAL TIMINGS
by Carolyn Brent
aug.gif (9094 bytes)
In Shamanic Astrology the idea of good/bad is set aside with the understanding that everything has an intent and a purpose. Recognizing, acknowledging and honoring the intent is a way of consciously participating with any collective initiation, with the greatest good of all in mind. It may stretch us to our edges and beyond, but if we understand the intent and work with it, then great magic is also possible.

Since the T-square continues to be a main feature in August with Venus and Mars arriving in Leo keeping the circuitry activated, the above statement reminds us of another perspective about the income energies. Mercury remains retrograde until August 23 and there are two partial eclipses. The partial eclipse of the Moon is on August 7 and the partial eclipse of the Sun is on August 21.

August is named after Augustus Caesar the first Roman emperor. The Goddesses Demeter, a.ka.Ceres, and the Corn Mother are associated with this month as this is typically a month for harvesting. August 1st is celebrated as the cross-quarter day referred to as Lammas. The actual astrological cross quarter is August 7 when the Sun reaches 15 degrees Leo. Lammas marks the beginning of the fall season in the ancient traditions along with the first harvest of the year.

Chiron and Uranus are continuing their square to each other all of this month. The Sun moves to square Chiron and Uranus the first few days of August. Venus and Mars also activate the T-square with Neptune and Saturn, moving on to square Chiron and Uranus. So these influences will be felt throughout the month. This means unexpected changes, healing crisis, and confusion, may be part of the collective and personal drama’s being experienced. The intent is to bring about revolutionary changes that create structures designed to support the experience of radical radiant self-love, and pleasure in the expression of our life force as our new identity and reality. What each person experiences during this time depends on how entrenched and committed they are to the old paradigm, and will be a factor in how challenging or exciting these events are for each individual and for the collective. Working consciously with the intent of these alignments serves to help ground the highest expression of the intent of these cycles. Operating from pure love and the confidence that all is in divine order, while also acknowledging our fears and the part they play, assists in smoothing the transitions intended to occur this month.

August 3, The Sun opposes Uranus (11 degrees Leo) at 12:22 pm MST . This is like a Full Moon effect with Uranus. This influence will be felt before and after the exact alignment, illuminating the big picture through unexpected events.

August 4, Venus and Mars conjunct (19 degrees Cancer) at 2:30 pm MST. August 4, Venus and Mars conjunct (19 degrees Cancer) at 2:30 pm MST. August 4, Venus and Mars conjunct (19 degrees Cancer) at 2:30 pm MST. August 4, Venus and Mars conjunct (19 degrees Cancer) at 2:30 pm MST. This is the joining together of the sacred masculine (in his Virgo quest for the sacred work) and the sacred feminine (in her Capricorn quest for responsible, enjoyable, life supporting structure) in the morning sky. They will continue to dance close to each other, within 10 degrees until August 24. (See Venus/Mars Saga for more details available LINK HERE)

August 7 is the Aquarius Full Moon (15 degrees Aquarius, 7:10 pm MST) occurring at the astrological Cross Quarter point between the Summer Solstice and the Autumnal Equinox. The Moon is also conjunct Uranus today at 10:58 am MST. This tells us that all we really know for sure with this Full Moon is that we don’t know anything for sure. Uranus is the agent of change in extreme novel style. Whatever it takes to bring about radical changes aligned with the cosmic picture will be activated by this Full Moon. (For more information about the Moon cycles see the article on The Luminaries LINK HERE). Our challenge is to trust this is indeed what is taking place. The power and intent of this Full Moon is accentuated by a partial eclipse. (The center point of the eclipse is 6:25 pm MST). This eclipse is not especially noteworthy by itself, because partial eclipses are not usually felt as powerfully as annular or total eclipses. However, with Uranus so near this Full Moon my sense is this eclipse adds to the unpredictable, unexpected nature of what is taking place. The advice then is to go with the flow, and roll with whatever is happening for us personally and collectively, not only today but also for this entire month, and beyond.

Venus enters Leo on August 13 at 2:19 pm MST. The collective feminine journey enters the realm of the queen archetype. In her highest expression Venus in Leo rules her kingdom with self-love and confidence, empowering all those around her with her charismatic presence. As Venus enters Leo she finds herself opposed by visionary Neptune (one degree Aquarius) and squared by practical Saturn (2 degrees Taurus), emphasizing the T-square of structural change in connection with the world feminine principle in one of her most autonomous, sovereign expressions. Here she has an opportunity to move into a new structure envisioned at the Leo New Moon in July (see the July Timings LINK HERE), or she may get stuck in the old form and find life ever more challenging, until she either shifts with this reality or shifts into another reality. This means that those who are committed to the old paradigm may be leaving the planet, as they will no longer find the old reality existing here. Changes are taking place regardless of whether we participate with them or not.

August 15, Saturn (2 degrees Taurus 26 minutes) goes retrograde at 10:17 am MST and Pluto (5 degrees Sagittarius 34 minutes) goes direct at 9:14 pm MST. Saturn moves back over the same territory in the sky it has just crossed in the past couple of months. The image that comes to mind is that Saturn intends to pour over the reports and inspect the plans that have recently been put into place, testing their validity. It is a process of getting in touch with what is really working and what is not working and making adjustments accordingly. Pluto going direct has just completed an inward process and is ready to move into new territory, expanding self and relentlessly pursuing truth and meaning.

August 19, the Moon moves into Leo (1:01 pm MST) acting to further trigger the T-Square alignment. The Moon here represents a 26,000 year lineage of the Leo mysteries (radical, radiant self-love and charismatic self-confidence in a starring, leading role that empowers everyone around them) being transmitted at this time for those who choose to tune in and receive this activation.

August 20, The Moon conjuncts Venus (8 degree Leo) at 4:07 am MST. August 20, The Moon conjuncts Venus (8 degree Leo) at 4:07 am MST. This marks the passage of Venus through the 7th gate into the underworld, relating to the 1st chakra. (See the Venus/Mars Saga for more details LINK HERE). This symbolizes the giving up of the beliefs that prevent the feminine principle from fully experiencing and enjoying her life force. In the Innana myth this is where she looses her life in the underworld and begins her cellular transformation into her new form. I see it as comparable to the caterpillar spinning the cocoon, going within, where the transformation to a butterfly occurs.

Also today Mars enters Leo at 12:16 pm MST. See Venus entering Leo on August 13th. The same planetary alignments are also affecting Mars as it enters Leo, and the Venus explanation applies to Mars although it is for the world masculine principle, instead of the world feminine.

This New Moon is taking place conjunct the fixed star Regulus, the heart of the Lion. Regulus was known as one of the four royal stars and is associated with Archangel Raphael. This is a powerful conception point for the king/queen archetype showing up in its full strength and mastery! The theme of radical, radiant self-love shows up over and over this month. The question that comes to mind is, how do we walk confidently in who we are, and know from the depths of our being that simply showing up is our greatest gift to ourselves and humanity?

August 22, Neptune retrograde reenters Capricorn for its final connection with this realm for about 160 years. The Sun enters Virgo today at 12:59 pm MST. This means the fuel now available to the collective is earthy, practical, and connected to the sacred patterning of life.

August 23, Mercury (16 degrees Leo) goes direct at 3:30 pm MST. Left brained, logical, linear type thinking and functioning has a better chance of operating more efficiently and easily now.

August 26, Mercury and Venus conjunct (16 Leo) at 2:04 pm MST. In the Venus saga this represents Venus receiving instruction or teaching from Mercury. Traditionally, Mercury is seen typically as a masculine energy associated with the mind and Venus is a feminine energy, emphasizing the heart. These two planets conjunct symbolize a harmonizing of heart and mind, feminine and masculine.

Also on the 26th the Moon enters Scorpio at 8:25 pm MST, activating the grand cross energy activated discussed in the July 30th timings, as follows. The maximum intensity of this alignment will take place Aug 25, 26 and 27. It intensifies the affects of the T-square and brings in the influence of Uranus (10 degrees Aquarius), and Chiron (14 degrees Scorpio). Resisting the changes intensifies our experiences (Uranus creates change by whatever means it takes), or we can experience the magic of birthing something we haven’t yet fully imagined, by embracing the changes and trusting they are in alignment with divine will. activating the grand cross energy activated discussed in the July 30th timings, as follows. The maximum intensity of this alignment will take place Aug 25, 26 and 27. It intensifies the affects of the T-square and brings in the influence of Uranus (10 degrees Aquarius), and Chiron (14 degrees Scorpio). Uranus adds the element of unpredictable events, often extreme to the point of novelty or just plain out of the ordinary. August 31 the Moon enters Capricorn and crosses the exact Galactic Alignment at 7:23 pm. This is another opportunity to check out the area of the sky where the Galactic Alignment marking the 26,000 year cycle is taking place. (See Related Article LINK HERE) Tuning into this area of the sky is tuning into the incoming energies for the new cycle. It gives us an opportunity to ceremonially work with the Moon as a transmitter of the past 26,000 years and how we intend to dream our dream into the next 26,000 years.August 21, is the second Leo New Moon (29 degrees Leo) this year at 7:03 pm MSTAugust 21, is the second Leo New Moon (29 degrees Leo) this year at 7:03 pm MST.

My sense is the Sun in Leo is burning bright and hot, which will burn away what no longer serves, or for those who are especially stubborn and resistant to change, it will scorch their reality. It gives us an opportunity to ceremonially work with the Moon as a transmitter of the past 26,000 years and how we intend to dream our dream into the next 26,000 years.

SEPTEMBER 1998 CELESTIAL TIMINGS

In Special Memory of my Mother Merilyn Helen Judd Massey
Born September 6, 1933 Died August 18, 1998

September begins with Moon in Capricorn having just passed by the Galactic Gateway. This is the the gateway where the Winter Solstice is making its most exact alignment this year heralding the center point of the turning of a 26,000 year age. Allowing our awareness to be with this area of the sky and opening to receiving the incoming information and energies assists the anchoring in form of the emerging age. We are dreaming the new form now through our awareness, our presence and our mindfulness! Death of the old paradigm, the old world, the ways we have known life to be, is inevitable.

I have spent most of July and August being with my dying mother. I have learned that being with dying, being with what is passing away, being with all that just is allows us to witness, acknowledge and honor what is passing away, knowing room is being made for what is already birthing. When something dies to its old form, a new form is ready for us to embrace. As we approach the Autumanal equinox we are moving into the seasonal cycle that celebrates the death process. As the fall colors illuminate our awareness we are reminded this process is one of beauty and magic.

In the August timings I talked about how if we get stuck in the in the old form, we will find life ever more challenging, until we either shift with this reality or shift into another reality. This means that those who are committed to the old paradigm may be leaving the planet, as they will no longer find the old reality existing here. Changes are taking place regardless of whether we participate with them or not. After spending time with my Mom who chose to die consciously my awareness around this has expanded to include the understanding that some will choose to die consciously and thus assist with this shift at the Turning Of The Ages. (See Merilyn’s Transition story for details.)

The influences given here are listed for the date of the event, but remember many will feel the effects for several days before and after the exact alignment, especially if these influences are personally connected to your own natal chart.

September 3, Moon is conjunct Neptune (29 degrees Capricorn) at 2:21 am MST and Altair within one or two degrees. The Moon transmitts its ancient lineage and activates Neptune’s visionary encounter with this area of the sky. Neptune has been hanging out with the fixed star Altair known as the eye or the Eagle all of this year.

September 4, Mars in Leo is opposing Uranus in Aquarius (10 degrees) at 10:59 am. September 4, Mars in Leo is opposing Uranus in Aquarius (10 degrees) at 10:59 am. Once every 26 months Mars and Uranus reach opposition to each other creating a Full Moon effect. This suggests unpredictable, unplannable, unknowable events that bring about change for the masculine principle currently experiencing its Virgo quest for the sacred work. These changes are designed to break up the old beliefs, the old habits and patterns that have been in place too long. Attempting to hang on to the old only serves to increase the intensity of the events taking place designed to bring about change. The more entrenched the patterns, the more committed and attached we are to these old patterns the more intense the events become to create the shift. Rolling with the flow of life and these events helps to smooth the transition. Just like death is inevitable and comes whether we are ready for it or not, change is inevitable and comes whether we are ready for it or not. Uranus reminds us to move through life consciously and mindfully embracing what comes and trusting the changes are taking us to where we really intended to be anyway.

September 6, Pisces Full Moon (14 degrees Pisces) at 4:22 am MST with partial eclipse. The eclipse begins at 2:14 am MST, and reaches its midpoint at 4:10 am MST. This eclipse window is a sister to the one that occurred in February and March of this year. Check out the Celestial Timings archives on our web site or with back issues of the Earth Goddess Rising to connect with the energies I talked about then and that are activating again in this eclipse window. (See the Celestial Timings archives for February and March, or back issues of EGR) Also today Venus enters Virgo at 12:24 pm MST The feminine principle continues to integrate the Capricorn mysteries of structure and form, now with the assistance of Spider Woman and her ability to weave our dreaming into the tapestry of our awareness and reality. Today would have been Merilyn’s 65th birthday. Happy Birthday Mom!. This eclipse window is a sister to the one that occurred in February and March of this year. September 7, Mercury enters Virgo at 6:57 pm MST. Venus and Mercury are dancing close together with the exact conjunction taking place on September 10 at 10:40 am MS/t. The Venus Mercury conjunction in Virgo provides the feminine principle with the wisdom teachings of Spider Woman and of the High Priestess. Paying attention to the patterning of the manifest world, noting what is in harmonious pattern and what needs adjusting to be brought into harmony with the all is the sacred work of the Priestess. Co-creative connections inspires our sense of purpose and participation. With the manifest world.

The week before and after the Venus Merucry conjunction are within this window. It will be interesting to pay attention to what events are emerging at this time.

September 9, Moon conjuncts Saturn (3 degrees Taurus) at 12:18 pm. This conjunction provides an opportunity for you to connect with where Saturn is in the morning sky now. Also, it is an excellent time to tune into the emerging pleasrue paradigm and how to bring these mysteries into concrete structure and form through the ancient lineage the is activating at this time.

September 15, Jupiter reaches its yearly oppostion to the Sun (23 degrees Pisces), very near the lunar eclipse point last March. (See the Celestial Timings for March on the web site or in back issues of EGR) Pisces archetype is most assoicated with universal compassionate sacred service to all of life. Jupiter in Pisces is the quest for empathic service, mystical union, devotional surrender, and the visionary dream. The Boddhisattva who stays in this realm to be of service. Tara and Kwan Yin are coming strongly to mind.

September 17, Moon conjunct Mars (17 degrees Leo) at 3:57 pm MST. The masculine principle on its quest for the sacred work is learning about radical, radiant self love and charismatic self confidence.

September 20, Virgo New Moon (28 degrees Virgo) at 10:01 am MST. This New Moon is conjunct Mercury and opposed by Jupiter. Venus is nearly within 10 degrees of the New Moon. Mercury represents how we think and Jupiter represents expansion and the vision quest. Virgo is the Hight Priest/ess doing her sacred work. As Venus enters the underworld she is getting a transmission intended to deepen her sense of the sacred and how she may best participate with honoring all life as sacred. This is a wonderful time to tune in and ask how we can each do that with more awareness.

September 22, the Sun enters Libra at 11:37 pm MST and marks the Autumnal Equinox. The Libra mysteries of conscious equal partnership are emphasized. This partnership is including all of our personal parts of who we are. If one part is ignored or denied for any reason it will work to get our attention in whatever way it can. The image of creating a roundtable council with all of our own parts is useful at this time.

The standing stones are calling us to gather in ceremonial celebration during this Autumnal Equinox time as the turning of the seasons signals our move between the worlds, between the ages, between realities, between pradigms. In ancient times the standing stone circles were built to mark the celestial events connecting the Great Above with the Great Below. In recent times the mysteries of these great standing stones are being remembered. The stones carry the ancient mysteries, the ancient wisdom, the ancient knowing. They were carefully placed on the land to capture special features of the celestial cycles reminding us of our link between the celestial tand the earthly.

Some believe these great stones were literally gateways to otherworlds, to other times and other places. Some say they were used to link energy grids on the earth and were also used to realy messages from place to place. What I do know is when standing with the stones I experience an aliveness and energy like none other.

September 10-22, 1998 we have an opportunity to inaugurate a new standing stone circle during the Autumnal Equinox at the center point of the Turning Of The Ages. The stones have been placed over the past two years and the circle is ready. This is a unique opportunity to be a living witness and participant to the emerging myths and symbols for these times. I encourage everyone who feels so inspired to join us.

This stone circle is activating now to receive the energy transmission coming in form the Galactic Gateway-the place the Mayan’s referred to as Hanab Ku, the dreaming place of all the ges. The Great Above connect with the Great Below through us and through the stones. All that is left is for us to bear witness to honor, acknowledge and receive the gifts of these stones.

It is time for great remembering awakening what we already know and the stones are our catalyst. The stones need us as much as we need them to honor the place of consciou equal partnersip at the season werhe this is emphasized. This stone circle reminds us of the importance of all of our parts within the circle of life. No one part is of greater or lesser importance. All are equal: all parts have a gift that is essential to the whole of life. If anyone part is missing the whole is not complete and that part of the mystery is lost. This event with the standing stone at Faywood reminds us to show up and provides clues about how we can best participate and offer our part to the whole. For more information about the events please visit our web site or call me (information listed below). If you feel connected with the intent of this event, but are unable to physically attend please consider adding your energetic support and linking with us consciously during the event.

October Celestial Timings
oct.gif (8762 bytes)
by Carolyn Brent

It is a miracle that I actually got these timings together before  October. Life continues to be intensely crazy and magical. The details of handling my life and my Mother's is amazing and stretches me to my edges and beyond. Please be forgiving of the many typos and other glitches as I haven't had a chance to properly edit this. I am just grateful that it finally did come together in a timely way. Wow! This is truly an amazing year we are all getting to experience! May the magic of the As Above, So Below mysteries inspire you and assist you on your own wondrous journey. Blessed Be!

October begins with Venus technically in the underworld. She moved within 10 degrees of the Sun on September 21, which by our Shamanic Astrology understanding means her light should have been lost in the Sun’s glow and she would have disappeared from the morning sky. However, on September 23rd Daniel Giamario and I, with the group who gathered at the standing stones at Faywood Hotsprings in New Mexico, observed Venus still shining brightly well above the horizon just before Sunrise. This brought up speculation about the significance of Venus still in the morning sky. Considering Venus is currently integrating the Capricorn mysteries in the world feminine collective psyche until August of 1999, (see article about Venus Integration In Capricorn on the web site in the articles section) we wondered if her disappearance into the underworld might trigger great structural changes in the world? It appears she is delaying her disappearance, possibly working some Capricorn/Virgo magic in the world of structure and form to ease or prepare for the coming changes. I mention Capricorn/Virgo because Venus was in the sign Virgo until September 30th and she is integrating the Capricorn mysteries until August 1999. Early morning on September 27th I noticed Venus was still quite visible in the morning sky. An additional factor to consider is September 21 to 30,1998 is the nine days of Mother Divine according to the Maharishi Vedic Tradition, as well as being within the time of Jewish High Holy Days. Speculation coinciding with Venus remaining visible in the morning sky offers the possibility that she is remaining visible as a witness to these events and an As Above representation of the Divine Mother. In any case, Daniel predicts that when Venus moves into the underworld, where she is experiencing her Shamanic Death for approximately 60 days, we will see dramatic events shaking the old structures until they give way for new forms to birth that support what is emerging for our greatest good. (See the Venus/Mars article, for more details on the significance of Venus in the underworld during her 60 day disappearance. Information on how to obtain the article is on the web site.

Sky Stuff

Jupiter and Saturn are prominent in the night sky this month. Jupiter is already well above the horizon in the east just after sunset shining brilliantly and Saturn rises a few hours later. Mercury will also be visible in the evening sky from about October 9th to November 26th. Mars remains visible in the morning sky and Venus is not visible (or will soon disappear from the morning sky) as she travels closely with the Sun for about the next 60 days.

Month of October

In the old Roman Calendar, October is the eighth month and sacred to the goddess Astraea. Known as a star maiden, Astraea is the daughter of Zeus and Themis (Goddess of Divine Justice). During the Golden Age Astraea lived on earth and bestowed her blessings upon mortals. She left Earth at the end of the Golden Age and was placed among the stars of the constellation of the Virgin Priestess (a.k.a. the constellation of Virgo). In the Goddess calendar, the month of Mala expires October 2nd and is followed by the month of Hathor ending on October 30th. Hathor is the Eygptian goddess of love and beauty, protectress of women and mistress of song, dance, leaping and flower garlands. She is the Queen of the west, and those who knew the right spells could ride on her back to the underworld. She guarded the cemeteries of the dead and was identified with most of the Egyptian goddesses including Isis and Sekhmet. The final day of October is the first day of the month ruled by the goddess Samhain. This Celtic Goddess is the personification of the virtues of this time of year in the Celtic tradition. The festival of Samhain begins at sunset on October 31st, the Celtic New Year.

October 5th, Aries New Moon (13 degrees Aries) at 1:12 pm MST. Both Venus and Mercury conjunct the Sun during this Full Moon, suggesting we have the opportunity to bring greater balance to the connection between heart and mind. This Full Moon is illuminating the ancient Aries lineage, the path of the Amazon Warrior and Adventurer. The Warrior/Adventurer only goes to battle when what they are fighting for is something they believe in or they feel is a just and worthy cause. Otherwise the warrior nature tends to express competitively in proving their strength and skill. The Aries adventurer loves the excitement of being spontaneously in the moment and discovering what’s next. This Full Moon carries the entire lineage of the Aries mysteries giving us an opportunity to tune in and draw forth what these mysteries carry and then consciously evolving the Warrior/Adventurer to its next level of expression. My sense is the warrior now takes his or her stand to provide a safe place for the birth of the emerging paradigm. What is birthing is part of the new adventure. With the Sun, Mercury and Venus in Libra there is a strong sense of yet further integration of all of our inner parts. When this is accomplished the As Within integration is then reflected in our So Without experience. I invite you to look at all of your parts, the ones you love and the ones you fear. Invite them all to your round table council and listen to what they have to say. In listening and acknowledging all of our parts, even the ones we might judge as bad or less than, we validate all of who we are and are then able to receive the gifts all the parts have to offer. When all of the parts are integrated the whole is greater. During this Full Moon Mars is at 29 degrees Leo and the North Node is closely conjunct at 0 degrees Virgo. The North Node is hanging out in this area of the sky until we pass the Libra New Moon October 20th. This means Mars representing the masculine activating principle that gets things done in the world and the North Node representing the destiny of humanity are in the area of the sky nearly exactly conjunct the heart of the Lion (a.k.a. the constellation of Leo). Regulus is one of the four Royal Stars activated at the August 21, 1998 eclipse, and is linked with archangel Raphael, as well as being linked with the heart of the Sphinx. Edgar Cayce speaks of the Hall of Records located below the Sphinx with the doorway to this hall falling somewhere between the paws of the Sphinx. The Heart of the Lion, or the heart of the Sphinx, is in a direct line just above and between the paws suggesting the August eclispe and the October Full Moon are both activation points for the doorway to these records. It is possible the Lion will be visible in the early morning sky at the time of this Full Moon. This is fascinating imagery to tune in with consciously, seeing what we might have an opportunity to tap into in connection with the ancient Hall of Records. Chiron (19 degrees Scorpio) is conjunct the fixed star Zuben Al Shamali, the northern fixed star in the constellation of the scales. Last Summer Solstice, under the expansive and dark Northern Nevada skies at an ancient Solstice native ceremonial site; I received the sense that the main two stars of this constellation, Zuben Al Genubi and Zuben Al Shamali are a gateway. And since, Zuben Al Genubi is currently nearing 15 degrees Scorpio this gateway at the Turning Of The Ages is a gateway between the worlds. This is because 15 degrees Scorpio marks the Astrological Cross Quarter point of Samhain the time when the veil between the worlds is thinnest, and the Sun, at the Cross Quarter date, is rising to activate these fixed stars marking this gateway. The presence of Chiron, the wounded healer, at this gateway suggests we are healing our ability to connect with other realms and dimensions and healing our psychic abilities too. Zuben Al Shamali is a star noted for giving a particular sharpness of mind and intellect and is often seen as an indicator for very powerful psychic ability. When considering the activating abilities of Mars, with the North Node aligning our destiny with the heart of the Lion and Chiron’s activation of the fixed star associated with mind and intellect, another layer emerges around the theme of balancing the heart and mind with the energies of this Full Moon. Regulus reminds us to follow our true heart’s desire, and Chiron’s connection with Zuben Al Shamali provides us with an opportunity to heal the wounds of the mind and intellect that prevent us from truly following our heart’s desire, and connecting with our psychic inner knowing.

October 8th, Mars enters Virgo at 5:28 am MST. Mars began its Virgo quest for the sacred work in March, 1997. Mars spent about four months in the underworld from March to July of 1998. It rose as a morning star about July 9, 1998 and began the integration of its Shamanic Death phase at that time. As Mars enters Virgo there is a sense that it is now time for the world masculine principle to have a better idea of what the sacred work actually is. If that is still a vague and hazy place for you, remember it is not essential to have the answer right now, but it is essential to know and ask the question. "What is my sacred work in the world of structure and form?" As Mars enters the final phase of its quest the intent is for this question to not only find an answer but to find a concrete expression.

October 11, 1998 Neptune returns to direct motion after having briefly reentered Capricorn over the past couple of months. This is good news for those who have planets in late degrees of Cardinal signs (Capricorn, Cancer, Libra, Aries) and the first degree or so of fixed signs (Aquarius, Leo, Scorpio, Taurus) as it means this is now a nearly complete Neptune initiation designed to bring forth the new visions and dreams after a long journey through confusion and identity crisis. Saturn is returning to square this area of the sky over the next few months creating opportunities to structure a form for the new visions and dreams to express within. Also today, Mercury enters Scorpio at 7:44 pm MST. Mercury in Scorpio is an expression of the passionate mind, operating from the feelings. Again the theme of balancing heart and mind, or feelings and mind comes forth this month for us to work with.

October 12, Mercury (1 degree Scorpio) opposes Saturn (1 degree Taurus) at 4:53 pm MST. These two in opposition create an interesting dance on the Scorpio/Taurus axis. How can Saturn receive the ideas and insights Mercury is excited to bring into form? How can Mercury responsibly begin to bring these ideas into a practical structure that works for the benefit of all?

October 15, The Virgo Moon conjuncts Mars (5 degrees Virgo) at 7:47 pm MST. The ancient lineage of the Priest/ess connects with the questing Masculine principle to provide the teachings that assist Mars in completing his quest.

October 17, the Moon enters Libra, the Autumnal Equinox point in the sky, at 9:02 pm MST. This point is aligning with the area of the sky known as the Sphinx point, which is exactly on the boundary of the constellation of the constellations of the Virgin Priestess and the Lion. This is another opportunity to work with the mysteries of the Sphinx, conscious equal partnership, and the balance of the masculine and feminine principle. October 18, Uranus (at 8 degrees and 49 minutes Aquarius) turns to direct motion at 11:46 pm MST. Actually Uranus is stationary near this exact degree most of October and at this exact degree from October 13 to October 24. Anyone with a planet in fixed signs near this degree may feel the effects of this in unexpected, unique, and novel ways. Uranus reminds us to ride the waves of change or we will find ourselves underneath them.

Back to top of page

October 19, Venus (23 degrees Libra) is conjunct the Moon and the fixed star Spica. This star is in the constellation of the Virgin Priestess and is located near her left hand, and is seen as the wheat she is holding in her hand. Spica (a.k.a. Ishtar) is seen as a provider of our material needs, especially when we remember we reap what we sow. Venus, now quite well into her Shamanic Death process, is encountering Ishtar and Grandmother Moon. These three celestial bodies together may represent a triune council of the feminine principle, the triple goddess reminding us of the importance of working with balancing the experience of death and rebirth within each of our parts within and without.

October 20, The Libra New Moon (27 degrees Libra) at 3:10 am MST. Sun, Moon and Venus are all lined up together at this New Moon, suggesting a meeting of another triune council conceiving a new relationship that balances all the polarities we encounter within and without in Sacred Union. Mercury and Chiron are both Scorpio close to the Gateway of the scales discussed at the Full Moon, and the North Node has just moved into the sign of Leo, closely conjunct Regulus. See Aries Full Moon for more details about this imagery. This New Moon is also conjunct the fixed star Izar in the constellation of Bootes the Herdsman, protector of all creatures. Izar was a star revered by ancient peoples as the place where their ancestors had first come from to this planet. There is a great deal of speculation about this and may have resulted from earlier confusion of interpretation. Izar is the Arabic term for girdle, where the star is located in Bootes. Izar has been seen as a source of life, and those with strong connections to this area of the sky generally have a keen interest in our origins. There is also a protective nature about this star that wants to see us move safely into our future as we grow and develop our species. New Moons are conception points or the time when we plant our seeds for the future. This Libra New Moon suggests this is a good time for planting our seeds while remembering our connection with the source of life and taking further steps in remembering our origins in ways that help us to evolve our experience to the next level. Also, it is a good time to be planting seeds to integrate all of our parts in relationship to our inner and outer life. With Moon moving into opposition to Saturn today the New Moon energy is also about planting seeds or conceiving new structures and taking responsibility for bringing them into form.

October 24, Venus enters Scorpio at 4:06 pm MST and opposes Saturn. The Goddess in her quest to experience the Capricorn mysteries is now working with the archetype of the Sorceress while in the underworld. These are the mysteries of death, rebirth and regeneration, as well as the mysteries associated with passionate life force energy and manifestation. Venus is currently experiencing her Shamanic Death initiation requiring her to die to her old form in the Capricorn mysteries, making room for a new form to birth in the Capricorn mysteries.

October 25, Moon enters Capricorn at 10:05 pm MST. This is the area of the sky where the Galactic alignment is taking place so viewing where the Moon is last night and tonight will help you zero in on where Galactic Center is. This is a great time to work ceremonially with the incoming mysteries. Also, retrograde Saturn returns to Aries today at 10:42 pm. Interestingly, Saturn who is also associated with Chronos or Time is shifting signs on the day most of the country shifts there clocks back from Daylight savings time. Saturn will remain in Aries until February, 1999. Aries is a pioneering, adventurous energy that loves to explore new paths and new territory. With Saturn back in Aries new structures that stretch all the old rules can come into form with the intent that these new innovative and pioneering forms support our highest good and the highest good of all life.

October 29, Venus (5 degrees Scorpio) conjuncts the Sun today at 9:22 pm. From the Shamanic Astrology perspective looking at the death process of Venus this represents the deepest descent into the underworld, where the darkest shadows are now illuminated and no longer hidden. This is where the shadows can be faced and integrated for personal empowerment. The shadow is often our greatest abilities we are hiding from for fear they may somehow prove dangerous to us. The darkness can not exist within the light of the radiant, illuminating Sun, and yet the light may be so bright we are challenged to open up and look at what is hidden within us. Integration of our opposites, our shadow and light is the place where sacred union exists within our human experience.

October 31, the waxing Moon conjuncts Jupiter (19 degrees Pisces) at 9:25 pm MST. Samhain/Halloween celebrations are expanded by Jupiter’s connection to the Moon bringing through the ancient Pisces lineage of compassionate sacred service to all life. Attuning to the mysteries of universal, compassionate, pure love is one way to consciously participate with the magic of this timing. Happy Celtic New Year!

November Celestial Timings
nov.gif (9612 bytes)
By Carolyn Brent

November reminds us that our reality is created through our dreaming. Nothing we see in this reality means anything, except for the meaning we give it. If we know that our reality is created by our beliefs and what we choose to give meaning too, then we literally have the ability to restructure our reality through dreaming new dreams and finding new meaning for the old symbols of our lives. In the children’s movie, The Never Ending Story, Fantasia is being consumed by the Nothing. The Nothing or no-thing is defined in the movie as what happens when people stop believing in Fantasia. The mission of the hero of the story is to find a human child to give the princess of Fantasia a new name. This is later revealed as the symbolic connection of what it takes to redream Fantasia. Once someone, anyone, believes in something about this magical land then the Nothing transforms into the new beliefs.

The current season is viewed collectively as the time when the veils between the worlds are thinnest. We have easier access to all realms and all dimensions at this time. What we choose to believe and energize becomes our reality. What happens is we forget we are the dreamers and we begin to believe in the dream so much we forget we can dream a new reality. The reality we experience only has meaning as long as we give it meaning. Stepping back, for the big picture view, reminds us of the power of our choice and intent. Conscious dreaming is a potent tool for transformation. Dreaming our dreams into reality is the gift of who we are in this place. My dreaming in my world energizes a new reality based on love, pleasure, compassion, ecstasy, beauty, abundance, gentleness, ease and grace. I am grateful for my ability to dream and remember.

In the natural year, November, is considered the first month of the winter quarter. November 1 is the Samhain/All Saints Day festival marking the cross-quarter point between the Autumnal Equinox and Winter Solstice. Astrologically, the Sun reaches the cross-quarter point of 15 degrees Scorpio on November 7. Samhain marked the first day of the old Celtic year. November was originally the 9th month in the Roman Calendar and is traditionally seen as month of endings and beginnings. This season is guided by Cailleach, the veiled woman or the old woman goddess. This is the time when the veil between the worlds is the thinnest, or the link between the world of the living and the underworld of the dead is strongest. November 1-3 is when the ancient Egyptian festival honoring Isis through the re-enactment of the dismembering and re-membering of Osiris was held.

This is the season that marks the swing between the worlds as the year moves further into its death process in preparation for a new birth. This is particularly significant in 1998 as this year marks the center point of the turning of a 26,000 year age. (See the web site article A Shamanic Look At The Turning Of The Ages for details.) Collectively, in the year and in the turning of the great wheel, we are in the swing between the worlds. This is the time when our conscious dreaming is being profoundly seeded into the collective for expression in the coming cycle. Individual, group and global meditations, visualizations, inspirations and intentions are profoundly important. For those who feel guided, now is the time to access other dimensions for guidance and inspiration about how to best participate with these powerful, transformative times.

The Planets In The Sky

November begins with Moon in Aries, Sun and Venus are closely conjunct at 9 degrees Scorpio and Mercury moves into Sagittarius on the 1st. Mercury, Jupiter, and Saturn are visible in the evening sky and Venus is still invisible due to her close proximity to the Sun. This month Mercury goes retrograde, Saturn remains retrograde, and Jupiter goes direct. The rest of the outer planets are all in direct motion now.

November 1, Mercury enters Sagittarius at 9:03 pm MST. This represents the quest for truth and meaning, boldly going where no one has dare to go before, to expand the experience of the self to its widest possible horizons, to tell the truth that is liberating and inspiring, and to catch a new vision and dream. Mercury will deepen this quest when it goes retrograde on November 21.

November 3, is the Taurus Full Moon (12 degrees Scorpio) at 10:18 pm MST. This Full Moon is squared by Uranus suggesting unpredictable changes that energize the Taurus/Scorpio mysteries in unexpected ways. Sun and Venus are still closely conjunct at 12 and 13 degrees Scorpio illuminating the Magadalene Sorceress mysteries. With Chiron nearby at 22 degrees Scorpio and Juno (representing commitment and partnership) at 6 degrees Scorpio, this suggests further opportunity to consciously heal the split between sexuality and spirituality, or the split between the feminine life force and masculine life force in ways that re-create sacred union with all that is. The Taurus Full Moon also reminds us of the pleasure principle. The Charge Of The Goddess reminds us that All Acts Of Love and Pleasure Are Her Rituals. Taurus, when fully healthy, receives, savors and fully enjoys love and pleasure physically and emotionally. During this Full Moon we are invited to remember the rituals of love and pleasure in honoring ourselves, our dreaming and all of life.

November 18, is the Scorpio New Moon (27 degrees Scorpio) at 9:27 pm MST. Chiron (24 degrees Scorpio) is conjunct this New Moon emphasizing the conception of the wounded healer’s ability to deepen the healing of our perceptions that split our psyche around our experience of soul and spirit or sexuality and spirituality. Deepening this process is the opposition of Pluto and the asteroid Goddess Ceres, known as the great mother. Interestingly, at the time of my own Mother’s death this past August 18th Pluto and Ceres were exactly opposite each other. Today’s opposition is occurring within a degree of each other as Ceres has retrograded and is moving back into opposition to Pluto at this time. This suggests to me, that this is the time for our old concepts of the nurturing, self sacrifing mother energy to die. Today we can conceive new concepts of mothering and nurturing that begin with learning to nurture and love ourselves first. Then, from the wholeness of self nurturing and self love, the mother energy authentically expresses and shares her wholeness, full and complete, inspiring and modeling this to all of life.

November 21, Mercury (18 degrees Sagittarius) goes retrograde at 4:40 am MST. See The Shamanic Astrology Handbook for more on Mercury Retrograde.

Man Fears Time…But Time Fears The Sphinx
~Arab Proverb

I found the above quote in William Henry’s book The Peacemaker And The Key Of Life. This imagery connects with The Turning Of The Ages as we shall see a little later. For now lets turn out attention to the importance of the 1998 Winter Solstice.

If indeed the center point of the turning of a Great Year (approximately 26,000 years) occurred in May, 1998, this Winter Solstice is of huge importance. Astronomer John Muess calculated May, 1998 as the date when the Winter Solstice point in the sky aligned exactly with the intersection of the Milky Way Galaxy and the ecliptic (the path the planets travel) very near Galactic Center. The Solstice and Equinox points move one degree every 72 years. It takes approximately 26,000 years for these points to move through all the zodiacal constellations and return to their starting point. This means it has been nearly 26,000 years since the Winter Solstice has been in this area of the sky and it has been within one degree of the exact intersection for the last 72 years. It will take another 72 years for the Winter Solstice to move past the one-degree exact point. 72 plus 72 equals a time span of 144 years. Using the one-degree orb as an activation point, we know it takes at least 144 years to complete the Turning of an Age. Thus, May, 1998 represented the center point of a 144-year transition. This suggests we have now fully completed the last cycle and are now fully in the beginning of the new cycle. With that in mind, we get a sense of the importance of the 1998 Winter Solstice. Using the above parameters, this is the first Winter Solstice of an entirely new 26,000 year cycle. It is a New Year’s point of galactic significance. (For more information about the Turning Of The Ages see Daniel Giamario’s article "A Shamanic Look At The Turning Of The Ages" on the Shamanic Astrology Web Site or in The Shamanic Astrology Handbook or in the Feb/Mar 1998 issue of the Mountain Astrologer. For more information about the Winter Solstice see Daniel’s article "The Mysteries Of The Winter Solstice" on Web Site.)

Consciously celebrating and engaging the Galactic Solstice New Year of 1998 is an opportunity of a lifetime, indeed of many lifetimes. When we engage this timing with clear intention it assures we are consciously co-creating with the unfolding great mystery. We have a potent opportunity to shed the old cycle, as a snake sheds its skin. The snake sheds her skin when it no longer fits who she is or what she has grown towards. Working with this imagery it feels timely to shed all the aspects of ourselves that have grown too tight and no longer serve who we truly are. In shedding the old, we make room for the new emerging energies, Then it is up to our own creative self-expression to choose how we are going to co-creatively work with these energies. This month’s timings give some images and ideas to begin working with the mystery as it is revealing itself to each of us at this time. What is said here may or may not be true, the point is to begin to ask your own questions and find your own truth, so you may consciously choose to engage this magical time.

December begins with Sun, Mercury, and Pluto all lined up in Sagittarius. The Sun is at 10 degrees, Mercury is at 9 degrees and Pluto is at 8 degrees all very closely conjunct the fixed star Antares, the heart of the Scorpion. The constellation of the Scorpion has also been seen as a dragon, a phoenix, and a snake. These images suggest death and rebirth themes, alchemical magic and transformation. Antares is the brightest star in this constellation, and like the heart it represents it pulses red. It is associated with Archangel Uriel and is one of the four royal stars as mentioned in February, 1998 timings. Ur was an ancient name for Earth and was also the name of a primary ancient Sumerian city. (See the February Celestial Timings Archives, on the Web Site.)

Dec 3, Gemini Full Moon (11 degrees Gemini) at 8:20 am MST. Pluto is within three degrees of the Sun at this Full Moon. Sun and Pluto are both hovering in the area of Antares. Antares appears to be a masculine, patriarchal name for this star. However, she carries a powerful feminine essence that resonates with Sekhmet, Isis, and Kali. Pluto is near the exact same degree it was at the February Solar Eclipse about 9 months ago, suggesting that what was seeded and accelerated at that time has gestated and is ready to birth into the first expression of its infant form. I sense the heart of the dragon imagery of Antares, as the primoridal dragon giving birth to the universe, and then from her compassionate mother’s heart she nurtures her infant, keeping her safe from harm. However more recently, dragons have been greatly feared as represented by the mythical images of heroic men slaying dragons. Dragons symbolize life force energy with a fierce feminine component. This Full Moon presents an opportunity to work with the rage of the scorpion, or the dragon, where the truth has been hidden and dishonored so it can now be transformed into the cou-rage to face the truth of our shadow and light while we integrate both.

At this Full Moon, the bright Sun exposes all our shadow elements to the light. Pluto is fully encased in the light of the Sun from the Earth’s perspective and the Moon is also fully illuminated. This is a time to consciously work with the integration of our shadow side within the light of our being and awareness. I have recently discovered that the Pluto symbol is strongly linked to the symbol of Tula as described by William Henry in his book the Peacemaker as mentioned earlier. Tula is the place of the Central Sun or Spiritual Sun where all souls first emerged and now long to return. Tula also represents the origins of the human soul and in many ancient cultures it represented the idea of a paradise city or place that is Heaven on Earth. It is linked to Shamaballa, the Garden of Eden, to the Holy City, or City of the Gods. Pluto’s symbol is nearly an exact replica of this ancient symbol, also described as the Key of Life. Sensing synchronicity, it seems the archetypal energy or the mysteries Pluto represents connects with the key of life and our ability to return to Tula. In part, this is the integration, or sacred union, of opposites, such as shadow and light, death and birth, thinking and feeling, masculine and feminine, and so on.

Moon in Gemini has just crossed Aldebaran the eye of the Bull at the time of the Full Moon. Antares and Aldebaran form an axis that intersects another axis formed by Regulus, the heart of the Lion, and Fomalhaut the mouth of the Fish. These are all known as the four royal stars and they figured prominently in the February Solar Eclipse. The heart of the Lion, Regulus, represents the heart of the masculine principle and the heart of the dragon or Scorpion, Antares, represents the heart of the feminine principle. The mouth of the fish is the messenger and the eye of the Bull is the ability to see with clear vision. This imagery is rich with possibilities. All of these symbols have had different meanings at different times. It is a time for us to choose our relationship and our reality in connection with these symbols at this Full Moon and at this turning of an age.

Dec 7, Venus (24 Sagittarius) may be visible in the evening sky, depending on the horizon and other environmental factors. In the great Venus cycle, the Queen of Heaven is ascending from her 60 day sojourn in the underworld where she died to who she was and is now born anew. Venus will now spend the next 260 days in the evening sky. (See Venus Integration in Capricorn article on web site for more about this Venus cycle.)

Dec 10, Mercury (2 degrees Sagittarius) goes direct at 11:24 pm. The image that works for me with Mercury Retrograde is drawing the arrow back on the bow. The Retrograde phase is a time for gathering power, going within, stepping back for a more dynamic forward movement when Mercury turns direct. When Mercury goes direct there is a pause as it stations and then the arrow is released and Mercury moves dynamically into new territory.

Mercury at the time of its station and return to direct motion is near the fixed star Isidis or Dschubba, located on the forehead or center of the head, in the constellation of the Scorpion. This star was thought to connect with the Goddess Isis and also to carry information in connection with our origins. It is seen as a star that confers great skill to those who carry a connection to it. Mercury, it seems, has returned to this area of the sky to deepen its teaching in connection with the skill it takes to go into new and completely unknown territory. The message may be to be prepared and ready to meet whatever life presents.

Dec 11, Venus, now fully apparent in the evening sky, enters Capricorn at 11:33 am MST. This marks the alignment of the emerging feminine identity in Capricorn with the winter solstice point, which is also aligning with the intersection of the Milky Way Galaxy and the ecliptic. Venus passing by here today reminds us that the feminine world principle is integrating in the Capricorn mysteries in her current 584 day cycle. Thus, the Goddess aligns with the incoming galactic transmission. As a builder energy she is reinventing the concepts of work and play, doing and being.

Also today the Moon enters Libra at 9:44 am MST. Zero Libra marks the Autumnal Equinox point in the sky. So today we have Venus at the Winter Solstice point and the Moon at the Autumnal Equinox point activating these energies in the As Above. This imagery suggests building new communities based on conscious equal partnership.

Dec 18, Sagittarius New Moon (27 degrees Sagittarius) at 3:42 pm MST. The Sun and the Moon are aligned with Galactic Center at this New Moon with Saturn (27 Aries) in an exact trine. Trine energy is generally experienced as gentle, harmonious and inspirational, particularly when in fire signs. Saturn is the planet of structure and form. Galactic Center is the dreaming place where the energies are beaming in for the new cycle. This is a powerful timing for working with the Key of Life imagery as suggested by William Henry in The Peacemaker. He says the key of life has two components. The first one is for us to remember that our goal in life is to co-create heaven on earth. The second is the goal of transforming ourselves into a heron, which he defines as a light being capable of traveling in higher dimensions with the intent of returning to the heavenly Tula of our origins. With attention and intention we can work with this New Moon to seed the structure that fulfills our dreams so they express in concrete reality.

Back to top of page

Galactic Center is found between the constellation of the Scorpion and the Archer. Amazingly, it is located just in front of the tip of the arrow of the Archer. The arrow points the way to the center of our galaxy. Through high powered telescopes this area of the sky has been determined to be a black hole. Scientists now theorize that black holes are gateways to parallel dimensions and they are linked with the concept of wormholes. Theoretically, these wormholes are interstellar passages or pathways (a.k.a. star gates). that allow for nearly instant intergalactic travel. (This is evidenced in the collective by some of my personal favorites TV shows and movies such as Star Trek Deep Space Nine, Voyager and Star Gate.) This New Moon suggests we have a direct As Above link with the Sun and Moon linking us directly to the Galactic Gateway. This is a rare and powerful dreaming opportunity happening at the center point of The Turning Of The Ages. Ceremonially celebrating and actively seeding our personal and collective dreams and intentions at this Solstice New Moon has intergalactic implications!

Dec 19, is the first Venus/Moon (9 Capricorn) conjunction at 5:58 pm MST since Venus rose from the underworld. This symbolizes Inanna’s passage through the first gate out of the underworld where she gets her life force energy fully returned to her.

Dec 21, Winter Solstice is occurring at 6:57 pm MST. Mercury and Pluto are exactly conjunct, Moon and Uranus are within 8 hours of an exact conjunction, and Venus is conjunct the fixed star Vega. Vega is in the constellation of Lyra and is linked to music and creativity. This star is also known for charismatic and magical energy, and was linked with the Egyptian Goddess Maat, who is a female counterpart to Thoth. I have also read that Vega is one of the stars where some of our ancestors came from.

This is all potent energy to work with for this first New Year’s point in the new 26,000 year cycle. Mercury and Pluto in Sagittarius are exploring the depths of truth and meaning as we perceive it from the vantage of an entirely new cycle. Uranus conjunct the Moon is breaking up all that has been in place too long. The status quo, what has been established as the order of things, and the order of life, is going through unexpected changes. The revolutionary energy activated at this time accelerates evolutionary change designed to take us to new territory. Neptune has returned to a near exact energetic conjunction with Altair, the eye of the eagle known as Aquila. This suggests a far seeing cosmic overview with dreamy Neptune and reminds us that it is our imagination that is our greatest creative tool. What we are imagining and dreaming now is being seeded into the new structure and form of the next cycle. It also means we have a connection with two of the stars found in the summer triangle at this time, which feels like another star gate activation.

The Lords of Time convene at the turning of an age. For those who seek and are open, the mysteries of time are remembered, the hall of records is remembered, the Mer-Ka-Ba is remembered, the great mystery is remembered. In the Great Above the stars in the sky form a huge time clock. When the Solstices and Equinoxes align on the boundaries of the Scorpion (a.k.a. the eagle), the Bull, the Lion, and the Waterbearer (human) it signals the turning of an age. Interestingly, the lion, eagle, bull and man are the four symbols found in the biblical book of Revelations, and these symbols have all been related to the imagery of the Sphinx. In William Henry’s book, The Peacemaker, he says when the flood waters receded the Great Sphinx was recarved. The new images incorporated the four above symbols. The tail and backend were recarved in the image of a bull. The paws and forefront were carved to resemble a lion. The head was left in the shape of a human. Stone boxes on the flanks of the Sphinx were where ceremonial fires were lit causing the Sphinx to look like it had the out stretched wings of a soaring eagle. In the Great Below, the Sphinx links to this great cosmic time clock, and is a key to activating the Mer-Ka-Ba. The Mer-Ka-Ba translates as Mer (Light) Ka (Spirit) Ba (Body) and is thought to be a transport system through space/time/light that we each possess inherently within our own cellular structure once we remember it.

Once again the Equinox and Solstice points are aligning on the boundaries of these four constellations. Interestingly, there are whisperings and even obscure reports that the great Hall of Records has been located in or near the Egyptian Sphinx. The Sphinx is a key to our remembering who we are, where we come from, our part in the great mystery and where we are going. Two of this year’s eclipses in February and August connected strongly to this imagery. This month the Full Moon and the New Moon are activating some of the most potent symbolism connected with the Sphinx. For those who feel a resonance with these mysteries now is the time to invite the mysteries of the Sphinx, of time, of the turning of the great wheel, of the hall of records, of our origins, of the lion, bull, eagle (dragon/scorpion) and waterbearer, of the council of the twelve and the one, of the Mer-Ka-Ba, of Tula/Shamaballa, of the Central Sun behind the Sun and so on, more fully into our conscious awareness. These are indeed mysterious and magical times.

December 29 Saturn (26 degrees and 46 minutes of Aries) goes direct at 8:14 am MST. This marks the beginning of the completion of Saturn’s two and a half year transit in the Aries mysteries.
