MONDAY OBSERVATIONS – April 18th, 2022

FACEBOOK APRIL 18, 2022

By Daniel Giamario

The morning sky continues to be amazing!  Don’t miss it.  Highest up is Saturn at 23Aquarius26, followed with about a 9-degree separation by Mars at 2Pisces08.  Next is Venus, just recently moving beyond its 10-degree orb with Mars, at 13Pisces26.  A rapidly rising Jupiter is now only 12 degrees from Venus at 25Pisces10.  This beautifully presages the gorgeous Venus/Jupiter conjunction on April 30th, the day of a Solar Eclipse.  These planets are like a string of gems in the morning sky, in a rare configuration.  The brightest is, of course, Venus at magnitude -4.22, followed by Jupiter at -2.07.  Saturn at 0.82 is slightly brighter than Mars shining at 0.99.  See if you can detect any difference, other than the difference in their color.

In the evening sky, Mercury, our other visible planet, should be starting to be seen, now rising in a quite good evening apparition.  Mercury is now shining at magnitude -1.14 at 13Taurus48.  It’s worth noting that at 9:51 PM PDT on Sunday night, Mercury conjoins Uranus at 13Taurus48.  Mercury is now a good 16 degrees from the Sun, having just exited its second Guardian of the Threshold phase, and now into its full Hermetic expression in the current Capricorn synodic over-story.  Since the inception of this synod, on Feb.3rd, Mercury has incorporated Capricorn, Aquarius, Pisces, Aries, and now Taurus into its comprehensive function of perception, cognition, and communication for global humanity.  This Hermetic phase will last until May 10, 2022.  This conjunction with Uranus brings it into alignment with the ongoing global Saturn square with Uranus.  Unusual, unexpected, and unpredictable insights powered by synchronicity are quite available just now.  Be willing to think out of the box, somewhat unusual for Taurus, nonetheless.   More about the Mercury over-story can be found here: https://shamanicastrology.com/march-equinox-2021-seminars

Last but not least is the exact square of the Sun with Pluto (a quadrature), at 8:14 AM PDT on Monday, at 28Capricorn33.  I have always allocated a three-day window to experience the intent of these categories of aspects.  The intent of Plutonian dynamic aspects is to reveal the hidden, and expose the shadow.  I often refer to this is as composting, composting all that needs composting.  This global aspect also reminds us of the ongoing United States Pluto Return.  The 246-248 year shadow material of the United States is being revealed to the world.  Can the required awareness be found to take some responsibility for this?  Our signature ThreeWorldsApproach is strongly recommended.  Denial of the shadow, personally and collectively, only compounds the challenges of these times: the convergence of at least five different time-lines in the Great Turning of the Ages.

Mars in Pisces – April 14/15, 2022

FACEBOOK  April 15, 2022

By Erik M Roth of Inspiral Nexus

Mars officially enters the sign of Pisces on April 14th in the Americas and the 15th for the continents east of there.  Mars has been in Aquarius for close to six weeks or 40 days.  This ingress into the sign of Pisces marks a change in the archetypal focus from one of the mind, to one of heart and spirit.  Mars will be in Pisces until May 24th.

In Shamanic Astrology, Mars represents the archetypal masculine principle and has a general resonance with the sign of Aries.  In the natal chart, this can translate into one’s relationship with the masculine within and without.  In a mundane transit, Mars can become an active force and a catalyst for the archetype involved.

Mars activates the qualities/expressions of Pisces, meaning a general uptick for both the beneficial qualities and the shadow of the sign.  Pisces is known as the Empath/Healer archetype.  It is a highly sensitive sign to the feelings and psychic impressions around it.  Pisces has a strong general inclination to be of service in the world, motivated to give or be of help.

A beneficial way this transit can be expressed is a greater awareness of “being of service” and sensitivities through empathy and compassion without egoic bias.  This means stepping aside from the ambitions of self-interest to doing things that serve others in need.

On the other end of the sign’s spectrum is an overload of taking on too much of a burden to give or be of service, weighing down through the pressure to “save the world”.  Pisces can feel so much that it can overwhelm people that have it personally placed on their natal charts.  People can also become lost in a dream or fantasy to escape the burdens and complexities of reality.

During this period involving Mars in Pisces, we can ask ourselves how to be of help in the world.  It is more about the small things and gifts to others and communities that can make a difference.  Empathy involves awareness of how others feel and sensing into what we can do to from donating time, money and energy, to simply offering to be of support when and where it is needed.

The Libra/Spica Full Moon

Image of the Goddess Brigid

By Daniel Giamario

Every year there is a Full Moon in Libra.  What is not so well known is an ancient connection to a less known relationship with the star Spica, and connection with the Sacred Feminine, and the Imbolc/Candlemass cross quarter date.

April’s Full Moon occurs April 16th at 11:55AM PDT, at 26Libra46.  That evening and the previous evening, as the Moon rises as the Sun sets, the Full Moon will be about 4 degrees South of Spica by declination.  Adjusted for precession, Spica is now at 24Libra10.  There is a rich back-story to this Full Moon.

Spica, a bright star along the ecliptic, has a magnitude of 0.95, and can be seen even with the Full Moon so close.  This star is right in the waist area of the Priestess constellation (astronomical Virgo).  Projected imagery has seen the priestess holding an ear of corn or a shaft of grain.  In Bali a goddess holds a rice paddy.  1500 years ago she is holding at her waist a balance beam (as found on the Justice Tarot card).  At that time the September equinox (0Libra) was found there.

A number of Northern European and Celtic traditions have seen Spica as the primary star of the Sacred Feminine mysteries.  She was the veritable stellar stand-in for Venus.  In the late Summer and early Fall,  Spica’s disappearance into the Underworld, her conjunction with the Sun (the current Catholic Feast of the Assumption) and her rise in the morning sky each year mirrored the times when Venus would descend into the underworld, and then rise reborn.  Later day Christianity never adjusted any of this with reference to precession.  The Sun/Spica conjunction used to happen in mid-August, and now in mid-October.  In our times now, Spica rises in the morning sky at Samhain!

What is less well known is that an equally important event would happen each year with Spica as the stellar stand-in for Venus.  To understand the importance of this, we again have to take precession into account.  A good 5000-6000 years ago, the Full Moon in alignment with Spica happened at the cross-quarter of Imbolc, in early February.  This important ceremonial time often celebrated the goddess Brigit, and her many variations.  As the antipode to Spica’s underworld descent , her yearly conjunction with the Moon was the celebration of her radiance, not the surrender of the death and rebirth journey. Brigid (also Brigit and Brid) was said to be a member of the mythic Tuatha de Danann, and the daughter of the Dagda, the Irish Bull God.  She was the goddess of wisdom and poetry, and the etymology of her name reveals “radiant beauty”, “high one”, and “exalted one”.  Once seen as a Triple Goddess, she is said to have two sisters: Brigid the healer and Brigid the smith.  In post Christian times, she was transformed into St. Brigid or St.Bridget.

As we gaze at the Libra Full Moon aligned with Spica, let us remember the deeper significance of this event.  Here is the most significant celebration of the radiance and exaltation of the Sacred Feminine; not as mother nurturer, not as wife, not as a Scorpionic journeyer to the Underworld, but as an exalted Goddess of Wisdom.  The imagery is reminiscent of the Hindu Saraswati, and Sophia of the Gnostics and non-patriarchal Christianity.

RAMBLINGS, REFLECTIONS AND RUMINATIONS—LIBRA FULL MOON

THE FIRST ECLIPSE SEASON OF THE YEAR APPROACHES

By Daniel Giamario

There are two eclipse seasons each year, each separated by about six months.  Sometimes there can be three eclipses in a season, but more often only two, as is the case with both seasons this year.  This year features two extremely central Lunar Eclipses, and two very minor Solar Eclipses.  We will explore the upcoming Solar and Lunar eclipses of April 30 and May 15th.

Partial Solar Eclipse  April 30, 2022  1:23PM PDT  10TAURUS28

This partial eclipse will cover a bit over half the Sun (0.640) and can be seen only in Western Antarctica, the Falklands and the Southern half of South America.  It is part of Saros 119, and nearing the end of 71 eclipses that began May 15, 850, and will end June 24, 2112.  The previous partial eclipse in this series was April 19, 2004 at 29Aries49.  Each Saros lasts 18 years and 11 days.

This is a North Node eclipse, occurring a good 12 degrees away from the North Node, which is at 22Taurus28.  Total Solar and Lunar eclipses can only occur when the syzygy (when a New or Full Moon aligns with the Nodes) is much closer to the Lunar Nodes.

Any Solar eclipse, always being a New Moon, can be seen as a super New Moon, with a greater amplification than any other New Moon.  Whilst there are numerous opinions among astrologers concerning how long before or after a Solar Eclipse is worthy of consideration, I feel that it is, at the very least, a seed point for at least six months, possibly quite longer.  As a North Node eclipse, there is a greater emphasis on a future orientation.  All eclipses will include the importance of addressing any personal or collective “shadow”, however this eclipse New Moon serves as a great portal for intending a future.  I always suggest working with the shadow before the partial phase and then seeding and intending the future starting with the exact point of New Moon.

Make sure to see if you have anything on your chart within the range of 5-28 degrees Taurus or Scorpio, as this will have relevance to you.  Relative to world events, I find it interesting that Biden’s Mars, Mercury, Sun and Venus are in this zone.  Putin’s Jupiter is 19Taurus and Venus at 11 Scorpio.  A study of the synastry between these two can provide interesting insights as to why their antipathy towards each other is quite personal.  All the eclipses in 2022 connect with their charts.

TOTAL LUNAR ECLIPSE   MAY 15-16, 2022  9:14PM PDT  25SCORPIO18

This is the longest Total eclipse in some time, as it is a bit more central than another long one later in the year.  It is rated as 1.413, almost 50% more than is required to create totality.  This is part of Lunar Saros 131.  The series of 72 began in 1427 and extends until 2707 with a total of 72 eclipses.  The previous one was May 4, 2004 at 14Scorpio42.  Totality can be experienced over half of the Eastern part of the United States, most of Mexico, and all of Central and South America, as well as Antarctica.  Much larger areas of the Earth will experience the partial phases.  The length of the entire eclipse process is 5 hours and 25 minutes, with up to an hour and 19 minutes of totality.  For example, in Washington DC, totality will last one hour and 24 minutes in the middle of the night.

This Full Moon has been recently termed a Super Moon and even as a “Blood Moon” eclipse, as it’s occurring quite near the Moon’s perigee (closest approach to Earth) placement in its orbit.  Our school has always used the term “Super Moon” in a different way, referring to any New Moon or Full Moon with an eclipse.  The “Blood Moon”expression is quite recent, borrowed from some biblical speculations, and the fact that a Lunar eclipse is often tinged orange, not actually red.  This is not always true.  We shall see what happens this time.  At any rate, I think the term is a rather sensationalized one.

This is a South Node eclipse, with the Moon less than 3 degrees from the node.  I have always felt that the total Lunar Eclipses carry more potential shadow that the Solar ones.  This is amplified by this South Node placement.  I suggest the great importance of deep inquiry and honesty about personal collective shadow.  This is always great to do with an intentional group, and particularly during the hours leading up to totality.  During the over one hour of totality, in many locations (and during the partial phase elsewhere),that time can be ceremonialized as a portal for deep meditation for receiving transmissions and insights.  As the Moon returns to Fullness, use that time for intention, to share insights, and then to celebrate the return to fullness.  I have always found it fascinating that within the entire Total Lunar Eclipse process, which in this case is over 5 hours, the entire Lunar cycle can be observed and experienced, from Full, waning to New, and then waxing back to fullness.

Looking Forward to the Next Eclipse Season of 2022

The second eclipse season of 2022 is October 25th until November 8th.  There are again two eclipses, with a quite similar pattern to this upcoming one, but with reversed nodal positions.  It begins with a South Node Partial Solar Eclipse on October 25th at 2Scorpio00.  This is somewhat closer to fullness at 0.862 of totality.  It will be visible across Europe, the Middle East and Northern Africa.  Followed two weeks later, at the Full Moon, is a long Total Lunar Eclipse near the North Node of 16Taurus01.  Almost identical in duration as in May, the Moon is covered 1.359 by the Earth’s shadow.  The result is totality lasting as long as one hour and 24 minutes, including Hawaii and West Coast cities.  Totality stretches across the Western United States, Hawaii and the Pacific, New Zealand, Japan, and Eastern Russia.  It pretty much covers the opposite parts of the globe missed by the eclipse of May 15th.

The exploration of the Taurus/Scorpio axis is the primary focus, both shadow and light.

Beyond 2022

The Eclipses of 2023 and 2024 strongly place the major focus on the United States as a number of eclipses crisscross the continental United States. The tracks of eclipses in 2012 and 2017 also interact with these eclipse paths.  I have written and spoken of this previously and will again as we approach these momentous years. Sun – Eris Conjunction on April 14th, 2022

FACEBOOK April 14, 2022

By Erik M Roth of Inspiral Nexus

In the early morning of April 14th in North America, the Sun moves into its annual conjunction with planetary body called Eris at 24°20’ Aries.  Since 1922, Eris has been in the sign of Aries and this will continue until transitioning into Taurus between 2044-48.  So, every year since 1925, the Sun has met Eris in Aries (1922-24 they were conjunct in the sign of Pisces).
Eris is one of the most distant planetary bodies from the Sun in our solar system, taking over 550 years to orbit, which is more than twice the duration of Pluto.  Because Eris moves very slowly Eris and the Sun will be in conjunction again on April 14th in 2023, 2025, 2026 and 2028.
Eris lived up to its general mythology when its was discovered and named in 2006.  It was this discovery that prompted the IAU (International Astronomers Union) to redefine what it meant to be planet, reducing Pluto and Eris to be classified as dwarf planets and Ceres “promoted” from asteroid to a dwarf planet.  Eris is the goddess of chaos and discord and certainly this symbolism divided the astronomical community as many still consider Pluto as a planet.
Looking deeper into the mythology of Eris and what she was famous for, we find that it was the Olympic gods and goddesses projecting upon Eris and blaming her as the cause of the Trojan War in ancient times.  But Eris, while not entirely innocent, got the gods and goddesses to face their issues (and what we can’t control) and the result was a war.  Eris is a catalyst and has a potent mental strength, intelligence, and wit to go along with a mischievous/playful side.
Eris can be found prominently featured in many natal charts of feminine activists, including Susan B Anthony and her work in the women’s suffrage movement in the 1800s.  Eris brings empowerment of the feminine into the chart, particularly if Eris has a hard/dynamic aspect to a personal planet or point.  Eris can also have a Uranus-like effect as a theme in a person’s life.  However, Eris’s qualities in the charts need more study to fully comprehend the variety of impacts in can have in the chart.  Though, astrologer Henry Seltzer in his book, The Tenth Planet – Revelations from the Astrological Eris, is insightful.
With this conjunction in Aries, we can tap into our own strengths, our aptitude and try rocking the boat of our own life when it needs to be shaken up a little in order to help us see and/or face our issues.  The Sun helps brings these things to light and understand the shadows of it all.  Eris has disrupt but also illuminate at the same time.
